drynot Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Ok...I might sound bitchy here...If I do I sincerely apologize.
diaperedandspanked Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Have you tried a moist heating pad? May help some.
square_duck Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I have the same basic thing and yes...it does suck BIG time. Mine went out due to stress (I think) back in 1987 bending over to pick up a small bag of tissues...BAM... I was on the floor unable to move, it hurt like hell. I comes back to haunt me time after time. Drugs work ok...anti inflammatories work best to cut down on swelling. when it does happen, I hate to take drugs, but 4 Advil at a time helps a LOT...and it helps with swelling and pain and allows me to move, even if that means walking like a crab The best thing though is don't put yourself in a position that you will hurt yourself...again. And NO, it seems that once you do something to your back it never 'really' heals, so you have to be more careful to avoid re-injury. One of the best things is exercise, walking and swimming and basic stuff like sit-ups that help strengthen the abdomen, and help take strain off the back. Anything like this you can do to help the back work less is a benefit. It sounds silly, but it's true, if you do like 50 sit-ups or so a day , your back will thank you. Plus it's a hell of a lot better then the current experiance you are in. Any kind of stretching also helps, taking Yoga classes or anything like that or even a martial art will help greatly. The worst thing you can do is NOTHING. Taking drugs to manage pain will do nothing down the road. being proactive and exercising, yoga, stretching etc...will help a heck of a lot, and help down the road as you get older, becase thats when it will really come back and bite you good. I hurt myself when I was 27, and I'm 53 now and it just seems to get worse when it does flair up. I don't exercise much, but I do make sure to be careful when I lift stuff or anything, because I don't like the pain I get in return. I do plan on joining the "Y" to use the swimming pool, and would like to get back into some kind of exercise program that will help my back, but I have some other stuff that needs to get done first....UGH. anyways, so yeah, it sucks and hurts like hell....stretching (careful) and sit ups and general exercise like swimming etc helps a lot...so go for it, relax, be careful bending or lifting and get some exercise and things should get better....the thing is you have to put together a regime that you can do regularly because you have to be able to do it for the rest of your life....if not, the pain WILL come back... Also don't sit on your wallet, if you do it messes up your back alignment, put it in your front pocket or somewhere else other then a back pocket....been there done that and had the pain as a result. Hope this helps qwack
Bettypooh Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Similar here My back was injured in my 20's and being stubborn I didn't get any medical gelp so my back healed out of alignnment. In later life it got worse and worse, and now I have a back full of arthritis with the discs degenerated and just waiting to let go You need to see a god chiripractor or physical therapist who knows backs ASAP or you might end up like me. Don't just take pain meds, that only adresses the symptom- it doesn't fix the problem. You're also probably having muscle spasms- feel with your hand and see if the lower back area is warmer than the rest of you; spasms create heat. You'll need muscle relaxers for that or at least Ibuprofen which is a mild muscle relaxer. Heat or cold applied to the area usually helps, but not continuous- go 20 minutes on and 20 off in cycles. And file an accident report at work- especially this- so that you don't end up like me having to pay for treatment for the rest of your life on your own
drynot Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Pain got so bad there this morning that I called 911.
redneck diaper boy Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 They should at least give you some pain drugs
square_duck Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Drugs only mask the problem and make things so you can function, they aren't a solution unto themselves. Personally I don't like taking things like that, unless I absolutely have to. I prefer to do what I have been doing on and off for the last 20 some years, exercise and stretching. This is sit ups and some different stretches I learned in school, and bike riding etc. Plus not sitting on my wallet and lifting heavy things correctly. Lower back pain is nothing to play with and just leaves you miserable, so I avoid it at all costs. Good luck.
Baby Brian Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I thew out my back while tiling my bathroom floor (I had just two more tiles to go and I wasn't about to quit- should have though). My doctor prescribed pain meds and bed rest, but also offered surgery- I said not to the surgery.
