I devised a Watermelon Martini

Yesterday my girlfriend and I tried to plug a watermelon with a vodka bottle. After waiting a day, no vodka made it into the melon. It was seedless and maybe too ripe which are both less than ideal. For some reason I haven’t been able to find regular seeded watermelons in my area. So, as a remedy to this absent Midwestern delicacy, I created a recipe for a decent watermelon martini. 
ingredients: 2oz vodka, 2 shakes of bitters, 1.5 cups of watermelon, 0.5oz of simple syrup, ice.

1. combine ingredients and mash well in a shaker. 2. Add plenty of ice and shake for about 15 seconds then strain and serve.

for added fun, add a few slices of watermelon to the bottom of your glass before you pour and then eat later with a spoon or fork. 
 

the end result should be a nice pinkish red color.

Maybe the vodka didn't flow into the watermelon because it was too tight of a seal around the bottle.  Air needs to be able to enter into the bottle to take the place of the vodka as it runs out.  Just guessing.

The idea is that the air around the seeds would be replaced with vodka. A tight seal prevents the bottle from tipping over as well. The plugged watermelon failed last year as well, I think at one point we resorted to cutting several holes and pouring the vodka into new holes. For some odd reason, that didn’t work either.
