Is bowel incontinence diarrhea?

Recommended Posts

I don't frequently mess in my diapers. It usually happens if I am out in public and ate something too rich or greasy or disagreeable. When I do mess in the diaper, its because the urgency is so bad that I can't hold it in and I have diarrhea in my diaper. Diarrhea is definitely harder to hold in than urine. If I have diarrhea outside the house, I rarely have time to make it to the bathroom and since I wear diapers all the time, I am prepared.

For people who have bowel incontinence or messy accidents, is it usually diarrhea too?

i dont normally have that, very rarely i will end up with an accident like that, but i think no need to label it, because in either case you need the diaper, but if pressed i think under the circumstances it would count because you cant hold it in time to get to the toilet.

I have a similar issue.    And such is a form of incontinence, but there are also constipation related incontinences as well as well as just general inability to hold it.

I can tell you the times I've had that unconstrained diarrhea and I was wearing a diaper, I was glad I was.   I've had a few times I wasn't as well.    Only ever had one blowout.

I can tell you everyone has some of those issues even though they are not incontinent.  We eat something that just doesn't agree with us.  We can be feeling just fine, eat something and get those cramps and the feeling if we don't get to a bathroom we will mess our pants no matter how hard we hold it or clench our butts!  Happened to me several times.  At a casino just after eating in the food court.  Fortunately I was near a restroom and was able to get there before I did much damage to my underwear (and I was able to clean the small areas with toilet paper).  Once I was on the way back from a trip driving down the highway and fortunately I was able to get off at the next exit where an all night diner was open.  Believe me, I had just gotten my underpants down and was hovering over the toilet seat when I exploded just inches before my butt sat down.  There have been many cases when this has happened after eating and I've had to scramble to the bathroom.  It's happened to everyone!  Those types of explosions are not hard or solid messes!  Soft, liquid, mushy and the like.  Not sure I would call it diarrhea but that's the closest thing to describe it.  It would happen whether you had a diaper on or not and is mostly due to what you ate.

Those with bowel incontinence may not have diarrhea when they mess uncontrollably, but remember, they have little or no control of their bowels.  They usually have to take fiber supplements to keep their stool soft and fairly loose otherwise they could become constipated and be in real trouble.  You know how much you have to grunt and push with a hard solid log to get it out, and it hurts!  You also know how quick and effortlessly it runs out when it's liquid or like sludge.  I wager with people who have bowel incontinence, they manage it so it falls somewhere in between rock hard and liquid poo.

In my experience, no. As a completely incontinent person with previous experience of near-complete continence, the actual process feels like going #2 fairly normally from a continent person's point of view, but with much less effort; it's just that I have no control over when it starts, when it stops, or how fast it goes.

I have generalised lower GI symptoms (basically IBS-like, but I don't have a formal diagnosis), so I do still experience diarrhoea, which, equally, is not under my control. As @rusty pins correctly mentioned, I do go to a fair degree of effort to make sure I'm not constipated because it's not something I can do anything about and it is unpleasant and possibly dangerous.

What about if you feel the need to empty your bowels suddenly and you have like at most 10 minutes before an accident? That happens to me quite frequently. Suddenly I feel the need and like at work I need to drop whatever I am doing to run to the toilet, I have visited a doctor 2 times but they couldn't help me. Sometimes I take loperamide if I am working or traveling. Also had other problems with my body.

It is quite annoying and embarrassing, but it was some years ago since I didn't make it to the toilet.
