Ooohhhhhh...this is a very dangerous thread and will end up in flames, I fear. I am an ordained minister and I'm sorry, but I disagree with you turtlepins...

I don't think the Ten Commandments need to be posted on the walls, but in our hearts...I think we can teach our children to pray, without having the schools do it for us (unless you choose a religious school for your children) and I think kids actually can pray in school on their own silently.

God was in those places, I think, crying for the loss.

Let's NOT go liberal vs conservative - that's where the shouting is going to begin. Before I was ordained, I taught school for 30 years - I've heard the suggestion that teachers ought to have guns...do YOU think that's a good idea? I know I don't... I wonder what might happen if we had fewer guns around...yeah, I know 'guns don't kill people...' what crap! We're willing to spend billions and billions on an illegal, unjust, unproductive and failed 'war on terror' and in Iraq, but we won't spend anything to help alleviate any of the social problems that create the nutcakes who DO kill people... let's see, we won't ban the guns and we won't do anything about the people who get their hands on them...hmmmm oh those nasty liberals.....

Yes, this world is an absolute mess...yes, it would be a LOT better if we would listen to God...hear what God is telling us then TALK with each other about it...NOT YELL, RANT, and insist that we have a corner on what God is saying. I won't try to tell you what God is saying - I can only tell you what I THINK God is saying. Don't you or anyone else dare tell me what God is saying - tell me what you THINK God is saying and then we can sit and talk about it.

I'm not sure this will be acceptable to you, Turtlepins. I know it won't be to many out there, but I've said it calmly and I hope with minimum flames or rant... the only people I have trouble accepting in this life is those who aren't willing to communicate, but rather TELL me what I ought to do, think, feel (or those who tell me, sure go ahead, cause you're goin' ta HELL)...I hope this thread can generate some open honest discussion without flames or bitterness...

You seem to be complaining about the conservatives generalizing (hmmm oh those nasty liberals) yet you follow it up by doing the exact same thing...

I know I will probably get flamed from both sides for this comment but here it goes... Why the crap would anyone in their right mind label themselves liberal or conservative and live a life following the criteria of such a label? Why not think for yourself 100% looking at all sides of every issue and making a decision based on that, rather than based on what side of the fence you want to sit on socially?

Personally I feel I have very liberal views on some things and very conservative views on others- I am not about to get into what issues match with what view, or this board will end up a flame fest.

Looking over our history, anyone who is not purposely being blind can see that deception and lies run rampid from leaders of both of our major political parties. Politicians are basicly liars... sorry...

God has very little to do with the actions of a few very screwed up kids, or the fact that in our 24/7 information culture the media exploits the shit out of stuff like this... repeating it over and over and over for ratings, while putting the same idea into the subconcious mind of other very screwed up kids. Sorry, but can you deny that the media does this? I think I saw the towers coming down on TV 1,000,000 times after 9/11... did this help anyone? Or did it just boost ratings in a society loosely based on fear and consumption?

Anyway, sorry I went on a rant. I just needed to vent my thoughts on the whole liberal vs. conservative and vice-versca battle.

Whats wrong with guns? Gun control laws control those who are honest enough to purchase them legally. If we can't control our boarders how are we going to control the trafficking of weapons into and out of the united states? Illegal firearms is big business!

We need to step up and take responsibility for our children, if they do something wrong then they should be disciplined. It shouldn't be up to the state how we raise our children. Now don't get me wrong, beating a child is WRONG.

The thing with politics and how we should live our lives as a country isn't liberal, or conservative, it is thinking on both sides of the situation. Why is it when "conservatives" start having troubles answering political questions they throw gay marriage out in the wind for all of the idiots to bite on? Whether a man can marry a man, or a woman a woman isn't up to the federal or state government to decide. its a personal choice and anything wrong with it is based on religion, and where does religion have a place in politics? We see how well that works in the middle east!

On the flip side, why is it when "liberals" have troubles answering questions they throw out the war on Iraq? Sitting here behind our computers complaining about the war on Iraq does not support the men and women who are loosing their lives over there. How bout we show a little support? The reason why religon is kept separte from schools or least should be is beacuse as soon as religion allowed into schools in instanly get overwelled by what ever the main religion of the area is and then students from other regilous backgrounds will suffer a result. I agree. This thread has mostly remained a calm debate, which says a lot about the maturity of the users here considering the hot nature of the topic.

As for the people who voiced their disapproval over this thread, they have a legitimate concern that this thread could upset the peace on this forum. For many people here, this forum is a sanctuary from the rough and tumble nature of other forums, and these types of threads will cause animosity if they degenerate into a flame war. Call it censoring if you like, but censoring may be necessary to keep this forum from becoming a DPF - and this type of thread is one of the most likely to lead us in that direction. That said, I'm not for closing this thread as long as everyone remains civil.

I think I snagged it off of DD from you necros. I have used it quite a bit as I am part of a couple of forums around the net. Makes me laugh every time i see it.

As for Christianity, it was persecuted in the beginning with the romans, but then it gained speed. As the Christianity snowball gathered momentum and mass it started getting back at those who persecuted them. Ever hear of the Spanish inquisition, or the crusades? How many people died in the name of "god" then?

Islam, Christianity, or whatever it is, it makes me sick seeing people kill one another in the name of "God". It sounds to me like they have not found the Tao, or their Dharma yet. haha. Oh yeah, BTW.....

I don't think people here are being unfriendly. You posted a sensitive subject and people told you how they felt about it! I didn't post on that subject because I didn't want to add gas to the fire (so to speak). We all have our opinions, but let me tell you something I've heard about them; "Opinions are like assholes, we all have them and they all stink!" You can leave if you want to, but it seems silly to me to get that offended by other people's opinions. You will probably be missed by some and not so much by others but I think you should stay.
