I haven't played the PS3 yet. I heard they only shipped a limited amount of PS3's to the U.S. I have played the Nintendo WII, it is really fun! I don't have one myself, but my friend does. Every Saturday and Sunday night we (as in all my non-ab friends and I) get together and play all night. I'm not really sure if his wife is too happy about it! There's a game called monkey ball but be careful if you play it! I almost threwout my shoulder playing the hammer throw.

The PS3 looks very good, but I did not find much interesting games for that system so far. The Wii has more interesting games as of this point. But since most all RPGs are for Playstation consoles, I'd have to go with the PS3.

Atari 2600

Absolutely!

Let's see...

-Atari 2600

-NES

-SNES

-Sega Genesis

-PlayStation (the original)

-Nentendo 64

-Gameboy (Original, Color, and Advance: I also have that cartridge that lets you play Gameboy games on your SNES)

I bet all the new systems are fun, but I can't get enough of the old ones. It's also kinda sad when people buy game systems just because of the graphics. The games are boring as hell, but the graphics are great! That is what killed off so many game systems. (Neo Geo, TurboGrafix16, Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar, Dreamcast, you get the idea)

I wonder if old arguments still stand? For the past few weeks I've been researching the Wii and the PS3. One of my friends has a Wii and a PS3 and he actually said that his PS3 melted his wii. He says it is still playable, but the melting is apparent. I don't particularly look at this as a flaw.. It must mean the fan is doing it's job.. Lol. It also makes the PS3 appear very macho in comparison to the Wii. However.. I've actually played both the Wii and the 360. I admit, 360 has stunning graphics.. But does it really matter? The games look a little better.. In real aspects: How much better can it get? Then I think about the perks for each system..

PS3:

Blueray/HD-DVD

60 GB Hard Drive

Motion Sensing Controller (Used so far in which games??)

Best Graphics of any Next-Gen System

I'll admit.. My research on the PS3 wasn't too extensive.. Mainly because I was hyped about the wii.. Let's face it. The PS3 is trying to act as some amazing multimedia device. While it may be that, it is 600 dollars. What do I really want? A gaming console. Own up to the next-gen title.. You may have great graphics in the gaming department, but that's all. Let's not forget that at this point PS3 has very little games released.. I want something innovative. Something new and challengin.. The Wii.

The Wii:

New innovative "different" controller design

Web Browsing

Free Online Play and an Online service unrivaled

Slightly better graphics than the last-gen consoles (I've heard Gamecube 1.5)

Virtual Console

Backwards compatibility with Gamecube games

I'm not really going to even compare the 360. IMO.. 360 is just an XBOX with better graphics, and a big library because it's been out for about a year and a half. So you begin to think.. "I don't want to have to wait for all of those games to arrive. XBOX 360 is for me!" Let's face it.. What games do Microsoft possess that make me want to jump for joy at the thought of their console? Their's the Halo franchise and Fable.. To tell you the truth.. I'm not really a mature gamer, and Microsoft seems to develop games mainly for teenage boys who like to shoot guns.. How exciting. Going back to the "games" issue. While not many games have been released yet on the Wii, you can always fall back on the VC and Gamecube games to tide you over. I haven't had a Gamecube in over 2 years, so I've missed out on a lot of games like Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and Resident Evil 4. Speaking of Resident Evil 4, let's not all jump overboard just yet because the Wii's graphics capabilities aren't up to par. I'll leave it at that, assuming you've seen gameplay footage from RE4. With Gamecube's games and original games from 5 systems on the wii, I think that already covers the lack of games. Let's face it.. When it came to last-gen consoles, who had the best games? In order, I'd say: PS2, Gamecube, XBOX. PS2 has a lot of great games, and a well-balanced library appealing to all audiences. Let's also not forget it had backwards compatibility with PS. So I'm not certain, but I think it stands that PS3 doesn't have Backwards compatibility? Who cares, it's 600 dollars.. Lol. Now.. The very controversial wii-mote.. For many games, I've heard, the wii-mote just doesn't do the trick. I'd partially blame this on developers, and partially blame it on the wii-mote's functionality. With some games I'm sure it would be better to stick to standard gameplay.. Such as fighting games. This is where the wii classic remote comes in. So far, the wii classic remote will be used for games like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaiichi 2, MK: Armageddon, and Supersmash Bros: Brawl. But!- The wii standard remote can also be used for MKA and DBZBT2. You can also use GCN remotes for these games. All of these factors make the wii very appealing. Where's the cherry on top of the sundae though? In the pricetag. at $250.00 per console, the Wii is the cheapest of all Next-Gen consoles, and the highest selling since it's release. Also, speculation is that Wii: Sports will be taken out of the package and the wii will sell for $200.00 in multiple colors. My choice is clear.

OK I'm gonna try not to be biased here, well not too much (Huge Nintendo Freak Alert)

I've had my Wii since mid December, and I love it and no i haven't even let go of the remote once let alone sent it flying through the TV. I've got a small collection of games, most of the ones that i wanted anyway, and my brother (he's 10) has got a good set of games for his Wii too (do i sense a bit of sibling influence? i think so) anyway between us we've got most of them covered, and so far theres been very few complaints. Apparently (according to him) Rayman sucks, he sold it. All i care is that Zelda, Monkey Ball, Red Steel and Splinter Cell absolutely rock! My only disapointing thing is that there are no online games yet (somebody ccorrect me if i'm wrong) and as far as i know the first one is going to be Pokemon AAAAH (my one Nintendo Hate) although they were cute on on Super Smash Bros. Anyway if you hadn't guessed i'm more than happy with the graphics, as really half the time even though the console can do incredible things the developers just don't have the time or knowledge to get them to thier full potential, so you end up with a few fancy looking games which have wasted thier whole budget and left nothing for game play....oops i well i did say i'd try not to be biased.

Well i better stop now before i say things that i can't back up

Incase you hadn't guessed I love my Wii

plus if you've got a nappy on your bum, you've gotta love the name! I think that shall be the selling point of my argument, well for you guys anyway!

huggles

Oh, the thread's alive so I might as well throw in my $0.02 cents...

I'll take the Wii over the PS3 any day. Come to think of it, I have a Wii and an XBox360, and I just bought the XBox360 for Mortal Kombat, and Duke Nukem Forever, although I might pick up a couple other odd titles here and there. The Wii is definitely the most reliable console of the three currently available, although it also has the most hardware limitations. Granted, if the games are good, the hardware should be irrelevant, which is why I still prefer the Wii over the PS3: I've yet to see a PS3-exclusive game that I've liked, or any feature that's made me want to upgrade to the PS3 from my PS2.

Of course, if you want to do something like run Linux on a game console, the PS3 is a better choice, if you have money to burn, both the Wii and the PS3, or all three systems are probably worth considering, but if you're just looking to play games without spending a lot of money, the Wii is your best bet. At this point I'd wait for the next console Nintendo puts out before buying anything new though, and while Sony and Microsoft may say that they want the XBox360 and PS3 to last ten years before being updated, I honestly don't see this happening. If Nintendo puts out a new console and it winds up trouncing their sales, Sony and Microsoft will both respond with new consoles as well.

Actually they removed it because someone used it to hack into Sony.

Yes and no. It was being used to develop custom firmware, which would have ended up as both hacking sony AND piracy.

The thing's been blown open now though, piracy is on the rise as is hacking. They discovered the root keys for activating software.

You can't really compare the two as it would be like comparing apples to oranges. If your a hardcore gaming 360 is the way to go and if you like fun games that get you moving wii is the way to go. PS3 is just an overpriced bluray player that attempts to play games.

This would have been true if you posted it in 2006 but the situation's changed now. PS3 has a much better price and has many unique games like Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, Modnation Racers and games that set new standards for console graphics like Uncharted 2, God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII (the 360 version is sub-HD, but then again the game's crap anyway), plus all the multiplats too.

Both are worth owning if you take gaming as a main hobby but if you can only own one it's really just down to looking at the exclusives and features (Blu-Ray on PS3, slightly better online on the 360 but you have to pay for it, different controllers) and what your friends own. I bought a 360 late last year to play stuff like Halo, Gears of War, Lost Oddyssey and Mass Effect 1. I'm not interested in all the Kinect rubbish out this year.

The Wii's more or less a different system altogether. I'd like it a lot more if there wasn't so much shovelware on it, but the first-party exclusives are pretty cool. It's like you have to wade through a sea of crap to find some really nice games. The big drawback is that it doesn't get a lot of the PS3 / 360 multiplats though.

Old thread, yes, but I'd just like to add my 2 cents anyway (and it's 2 cents, not .02 cents. .02 cents is 2% of 1 cent)
