Setbacks with 24/7

Recommended Posts

This week set up an interesting situation for me and my 24/7 diaper wearing experience.   I spent a week in Honolulu visiting my brother and sister-in-law, which was the first time since the before times that I made this trip.   AFAIK- my brother and his wife do not know that I wear diapers, even though i've worn ABDL diapers around them for a few years.  BTW- my SIL is a pediatric specialist doctor, so she could be aware, but hasn't said anything.

In the past they've both worked when I visited, which means that I was by myself most afternoons.   It is troublesome to dispose of used diapers in front of people who don't know, and you don't want them to find out.  Even if they knew, I wouldn't want them to deal with a week worth of wet diapers.   Carrying a weeks worth diapers is PITA when travelling, especially when you travel light- which I do.

However- I feel awkward without padding, and that's where adult pull-ups step up.  FTR- I used 1 every day.  The only time I didn't have padding was when I was wearing a swimsuit to the beach.   The interesting thing is as soon as I could, I went back to diaper.  I wore a diaper last night when I knew that I could dispose of it at the Honolulu airport and then head through security with pull-up, before taping up another diaper for my flight into Oakland.

Sounds good, really! Great job! ?

I feel like I can directly relate, because I visited my family last year (big flight involved too) after I had just started untraining and instead of not wearing at all I "downgraded" to something else (heavy pads in undies, in my case; parents knew I was into nappies and I felt they might notice pullups).

Fortunately I had my own hotel room so I was able to pack regular diapers for the week or so of my stay and not worry about disposal. That said, I was ready to come out and say I needed them at night since I'd had accidents already -- and considering I **did** have an accident at least one night there, that would have been the most mature/responsible thing to do anyway.

Overall while it sucked being out of *full* diapers, it was still good because it acknowledged/respected that I had to feel I needed diapers (even if at that point, at best I wet at night sometimes or had mild urgency). It was sure better than completely stopping and going through that stress on top of the visit...

And honestly...in the long term these are such extremely minor setbacks. Even my months-long interruption for surgery is minor compared to the years to be spent in diapers otherwise.

I wasn't that worried about wearing Pull Ups in front of my brother and SIL.   I've worn ABDL diapers in front of them many times, and AFAIK- they haven't noticed.  She is a doctor, so maybe she has and just chooses not to say anything.

The hard part in this case really was disposable.  I have no issue with disposing of diapers in a hotel waste bin.  I put it in the bag, and put it in the waste basket.  I'm sure the maid would prefer that to a wet bed.   But my brother doesn't have a big house, so it would be a pain even if it was well known.

It is actually a relief to know that I still have a level of control that allows to go with the Pull Ups.  For me, it is obviously an emotional need, rather than a physical need.   The only time I wasn't in Pull Ups was when we were headed to the beach, but they weren't always used- and barely when I did.

I always learned another thing.  There is no way in H-E-L-L that I will ever fly without the comfort/convenience of a diaper.   I like the window, and I went 5 hours without needing to get up.  That is worth it, just for the convenience.

I've experienced few setbacks after going 24/7 a year and a half ago (ish).

I've done pretty well with wearing a daily diaper for all stages of the day, so when I travel I don't think about the types of situations I'll be in, I just use my daily diaper. That said, there are situations now where I'm finding how the convenience of having spare smaller diapers or pull-ups would be handy, but I have none because I usually just get one kind of diaper.

Another setback I experience regularly is the amount of time I take to change my diaper. I'm talking, dry off my plastic pants, dry off the outside of my diaper, meticulously change (while drying off even more), using the right amount of powder and creams, to taping on that perfect diaper fit with whatever you have -- I swear, it adds up. If I am changing a wet diaper, a fast diaper change would be about 7 minutes, a slow one would be about 10 minutes. If I'm changing a poopy diaper add about 5 more minutes on top of that. So considering I change about 2.5 times per day on average, that's 17.5 minutes per day on a good day, or 25 minutes per day on a bad day. That comes out to 106.5-152 hours per year. Imagine spending 152 hours changing your diaper to your specifications.

And I don't know if this is the elephant in the room or not, but I'll just say it. Leaks. I can get off on the odd leak here or there, but let's just say I wear plastic pants 24/7 for a reason. I might experience zero leaks about 5% of the time, and the rest of the time it's either mild, moderate, or severe. The only benefit I can see to leaking in my plastic pants all day every day is there's a certain... aroma... that develops in my plastic pants as I powder and pee and leak my diapers. I'm not afraid to admit that this aroma is very intoxicating to me.

But what takes the cake for me is what everyone who wears (and uses, fully) diapers 24/7 experiences, which is simply logistics. You have to plan your day according to diaper changes. You have to plan your day according the diapers you'll need for which occasions. You have to plan your day around having enough diapers on hand to fill your needs. Not gonna lie, it's actually a lot of mental work.

That’s like that with me as well. All my family, friends and doctors knows I’m incontinent and I wear diapers permanently. I don’t even hide the fact I’m diapered and everyone around me know that’s I’m diapered. It’s why everyone is use to me being diapered around them.

How do you deal with disposal if you are staying at friends house?  Even if my brother knows, which he very well may because I wear them around him all of the time, I wouldn't want him to deal with the used diapers.

I simply bag my own diapers and take the trash can my self,  its a none issue :) after 7 years

I'm pretty much the same. I have weekly trash disposal, and I live with family (that knows) but I don't want to burden them with even the thoughts of diapers, so I hoard my diapers in my room for the week (bagging 3 diapers per grocery bag) and take them all out Sunday night for Monday morning's trash haul. Been doing this for about 20 years now. Hasn't been much of an issue.
