Incontinence

Recommended Posts

I`m bladder incontinent and wear 24/7 for that. Got pretty good bowel control except, like most people the ocassional accident.

But I Have a query for others.

Do you when you are wearing feel the need to pooh and after awhile, even though you can control

it you say to yourself - "I need to pooh, I have a diaper on, dam it I might as well use it,I will feel more comfortable and you let go.It is more of a convenience thing.

Wondering whether others do this?

Would be interested in your feedback. Can happen thru the night as well.

I wear 24/7 too and I pretty much do everything in my nappies. The only exception is if I'm out and about, the urge to poop comes along and I know I'm going to be in a confined space with other people before I can get changed. But otherwise, I just use the diaper and think 'that's what it's there for'. If I could be bothered to take de-odourising tablets and would be confident that the smell wouldn't be an issue I'd use my nappy all the time without exception. As it is, in any case, over 80% of my BMs end up in my diaper :-)

I have little or no feeling of need till it is to late so it is about 50 on using dieapers or pull ups for a bm

also depends on time of day and what i am doing at the time

I have been wet at night since 1977. (small stroke at 19) I suffered from fecal incontinence in the late 90s and wouldn't wish it on anyone. I use to go home from work to deal with a mess.

Finally i found the right doctor and specialist. I had colon surgery and it stopped the messy accidents. It was a scary process because I was loosing blood. After the operation, the doc told me I was lucky. A little longer and I would have had to deal with a colostomy or death.

I can avoid diapers in the day now unless I am on a trip etc.

Treasure the continence you have.

I use mine for both all the time with no warning, but have been using devrom tablets for several yrs and dont worry about odour any more.I take 4 at breakfast and 4 at supper and that works for me

Wow, thanks for mentioning these by name. I was expecting something costly, but it's around $10 for 100 capsules at the company's website, and they may be available for less elsewhere.

Any side-effects..??

they can be a little constipating but take with lots of water or spead them out over the day and you should be fine, they do cause a little green color on the tongue if you chew them and they will darken you stool.

I find they are 98% effective with odor control, even my wife doesnt notice to often and i have also noticed that they reduce the acidity that causes diaper rash from not be able to change right away, ive gone an hour or more with a small mess without rash when i could get somewere to change.I have been using them for 10 or more years.

I am about the same age and in very similar circumstances to the original poster. I wear primarily for urine loss, but also have some occasions when I will lose control of my bowels if i cannot reach a toilet very quickly - like less than a minute sometimes.

So while I will use a toilet for both if I have the chance and the timing is right, I will no longer hold on painfully to the last second if I know I am going to lose out anyway - I would rather try to use what little control I have to slow down the process than try for the impossible - slowing down (even a little) seems to give my diaper a better chance of absorbing pee ad (I think/hope) limits the odour from messy accidents a little.

Not only no but hell no! I was fecal incontinent and the docs managed to fix my nasty problem. I wouldn't wish incontinence on anyone! For me it was a scary issue too because I was loosing blood. I am glad that part of my life is over. I hated leaving work to clean myself up!

While fecal incontinent, I was wore disposable diapers because it is a pain to clean up a shit filled cloth diaper. Disposables are hot, expensive and uncomfortable.

Waking up, in the morning, in a wet diaper is not that bad.

I'm still experiencing sporadic severe urgency since a bowel resection a few years ago. I had a small portion of my decending colon removed and for some reason I developed occasional severe urgency post op. I wear at night for semi-regular bedwetting (~ 3 x week ) and seem to have most of my messy accidents in the morning. For the first few months i would be awakened by an intense urge to poop and in a panic rush off to the bathroom in an effort to reach the toilet. Repeated failures left me frustrated, exhausted, and depressed from having to clean up the scene of the disaster. While I enjoy the occasional load in my diapers under controled circumstances, these accidents were disturbing and time consuming to clean up after. As part of my recovery and healthy lifstyle I've been using metamucil to maintain a smoothly operating bowel. The increased fiber in my diet has produced the desired function but has also increased frequency, intensity of urge and volume. On days when I'm in "kid in diapers" mode, this is a desired attribute. But on days when I'm trying to get up and going in adult mode, it's served only to take most of the fun out of it. To anwser your question, yes. I decided to stop the mad dash to the toilet and the subsequent disaster that often results. I think the real question here is whether I'm being lazy or am I being smart to avoid the frustrating mess. The anwser to that is I'm using the convenience of my diapers to be smart. I get a much more restful sleep knowing I will not be faced with such a "shitty" way of waking up. I know that alot of people with bowel incontinece suffer from loose stools and I'm thankful that my fiber therapy keeps me solid and smoothly running. Because of the enormous volume I've had to resort to a more efficient diapering system but I can live with that. I'm sure I'm not the only one using my diapers for convenience. I prefer to think of it as theraputic over convenient. When I think back to those difficult mornings I much prefer a load in my diapers than on the floor, on the toilet and on me.
