Zander
They're called "leak guards" and sometimes "leg guards", they normally extend all the way from the back of the diaper core around the inside of the diaper core's narrowest part and up the front where they stop or fan out / fend out at the widest part of the core on the front. willnotwill
In the US they are commonly called "standing leak guards." Link to comment

babyleanna75
Guys leak guards are inside the diaper. They are elastic leg gathers or leg cuffs they are there to give better fit around the legs. Link to comment
kevindhca
That is the elastic for the leg openings on a diaper that put cost ahead of good performance. Diapers with straight elastic will leak at the back of the leg under compression because some of the padding is outside the elastic. Curved elastics perform much better since they help form a cup shape at the back that keeps all the padding inside the elastic. That's one of the reasons Abenas perform much better than other brands. Unfortunately, curved leg elastics are not used on most brands, even though mechanically it's not a difficult task to convert a modern diaper machine to produce that. If that feature became a bigger deciding factor in purchase, more companies would incorporate it in their products. Link to comment

Of course it could be implemented, but these days, if anything can be dumped for higher profits, they sure will dump the crap out of it. Link to comment
