I have never taken up drums, but my closest friend plays them. He says the most important thing for a beginner is to build up endurance, following that being able to improvise should something at a show or even during a song. He would practice for hours at a time to build up his endurance. By the end he would always be drenched in sweat and his hands would be so raw. Drumming can be super intense!
