have some urine in your bladder so you can pee a little bit to open up your urethra, and then a little bit more to open your sphincters, and then again to "rinse off" the outside of the catheter before you inflate the balloon.

(unless you're unable to stand) apply the catheter at the bathroom sink. lay everything out, put a diaper on most of the way, wash your hands and the tip of your penis (i assume), lubricate and insert fairly quickly.

and inflate the balloon with 5cc (not 20cc or 30cc) of water. the more water you add, the more stretchy slack balloon you'll have to pull back out when you're done.

my preference is to use silicone foleys, and no lubrication besides pee, so i can't claim any real knowledge of the lube process. babybrian is probably right

So I pick up this Bard 16f closed catheter with bag at a flea market.

Just use sterile lube and be clean on an overall basis.

Insert slow especially when you get to the sphincter you'll feel a slight resistance but just continue push slowly.
