Help Plz! How Do Wes Start Ans Ab Business?

Recommended Posts

Dats just silly..if ya don't know the answers, what kinda business is it gonna be?? Actually kidding aside, you either make your products, or buy from someone else, i.e. DPF. That last part was a warning, if you buy from someone else, so can we. So actually theres no point. Now if you mean your going to open a local store, ahhh probably not gonna happen in OK, would think there might be a few in your area but not nearly enough to warrent a store lease. Then you could always buy products and scab people like on Ebay. Which puts us back to the original make your own products, but then again if you could do that you wouldn't have had to ask where to get products. Okays..heck I don't have a good answer for ya..NEXT!

yea...that would go over big...i can see it now...the guy picks up the form with the name of the store and all that info and says something like "hey guys...look at this...this person wants to open a store and sell diapers and stuff...lets go show this to the FBI" ...they would probably think it was a front to sell kiddie porn or something...really...the chances of you opening an AB store are pretty much slim to none...

i will have to agree with you on that one...there is a link to an ab store that say they r dl friendly and the price of a cloth diaper is like 50 dollars for ONE...

Do you know how hard it is to conceive, start and build an enterprise for the AB market? I do. I started Mommies Scents. I put in hundreds of hours researching and testing product, designing labels, the website, setting up bank accounts, doing DBAs, securing a reseller's permit, pouring the product into bottles, labeling the bottles, filling orders, etc. etc. etc. My orders went out on time, the product was fairly priced and easy to order. I risked "outing" myself at every turn with the larger community, my colleagues and friends ("Wow, what's that smell in your garage? It smells like Pampers?").

And for what? A few loyal and truly appreciative customers and a slow slow road to breaking even on just the hard dollar investment, let alone the hours of time I spent developing the business. I had people complain about the price, the labeling and even the fact that the scent didn't match their very specific memory!

I am not complaining. I do it all over again in a heartbeat. Developing something from nothing more than an idea and a perceived demand was really satisfying. Dealing with a severely limited, ultra-sensitive and EXTREMELY critical market I could do without. In the end, the single product idea couldn't sustain the business and I sold it to a multi-faceted AB company. Mommies Scents is still around for those that want it. I'm glad I don't have to deal with it anyomore but proud to have made the contribution.

ok...i could just barely make out what you were saying baby alice...you might want to drop the baby talk when you are posting in this forum...alot of people dont understand it...

theres really no city in the world with enough AB's to open a store, weighing in operation costs (save NYC and possibly London) as well as the discretion factor, which doesnt exist in a real-world store.

and that baby talk drives me crazy, that's fine for roleplay and stuff, but if you're asking a legitimate question, all it does is make it hard to read.

Hello Mo,

I bought some of the scent you described from an online store (Diaperstation, ?? forget which). Anyway, it was fun.

Your explanation of what you went through is instructive. I totally agree with the high level of criticism in the community. Not sure if thats more or less than the general population including myself, but it sure is true in our online groups.

What do you mean by the comment, "I'm glad I don't have to deal with it anymore." Did you stop making it; sell the business; or...

Hugs,

Joey

I sold it to diaperstation.com. It's eactly the same formulas I used when I owned the buisness. It's a great product (in my humble mind) and unique (there are some "powder" scents out there but they are kinda disgusting). I had heard Abbies complain for years about the lack of a "babyish" smell in their adult disposables and went out to recreate that. I even had several customers that used Diaper Fresh as a cologne!

I once owned an AB Business many years ago, had a partner who thought it would be cute to take the business and run, litteraly. Anyways, I know this is a rather old posting but hope the information helps.

First you have to go to your local City Hall, file for a Business License (usually around 45.00).

Second you have to contact the IRS and request a TIN (Tax Identification Number).

Third depending on your State, County, and City, laws, you may have to file for a State,County,City TIN.

Fourth, find manufacturers that make the products you want to sell or make them yourself.

I know of a few places that sell AB things, but they only sell B2B, no resale or public wholesale.
