BabyJune
I'm still upset with the auto industry for discontinuing economical station wagons. (The key word here is ECONOMICAL) I had a Ford Escort wagon that was wonderful--lots of room and great gas mileage. I have a big Mercury station wagon now and can't get rid of it because there is no suitable replacement. Why the stigma about station wagons? They're practical. Most SUVs don't have the room my wagon has, and they certainly lack good gas mileage. I'd love another Escort-sized wagon and wish Ford would bring the European Focus station wagon to the United States. Yes, there are station wagons, but they are expensive to buy (Subaru, VW, Mercedes, Volvo, etc) and they get horrible gas mileage because so many have larger engines or all-wheel drive. My Escort clocked 42 m.p.g. on a trip right after I bought it and consistently averaged 32-34 m.p.g. in everyday use. The Mercury gets aboout 21 in the winter and 26 in the mild weather--not bad, but not that affordable, either. Please bring back the station wagon and quit being so concerned with what people think about what you drive. Link to comment

Creepymouse
The thing is, people don't LIKE station wagons, in general. The stigma is worse than minivans! Besides, my beat up minivan gets the same mileage as your mercury, and it needs a lot of work. I can take out the seats and haul lumber or move furniture, if I need to. Link to comment
babyvr6
The thing is, people don't LIKE station wagons, in general. The stigma is worse than minivans! I don"t know whats wrong with people. M5 tourings and rs6 avants are sex on wheel (with room for sex). The rs6 is faster than a gt3 porsche. Link to comment
BBB
I'm in love with wagons. The Jetta Wagon drives nice, the TDI was sluggish. Also the Acura TSX wagon, and there is a Cadillac CTS wagon as well. Then you have other wagons such as an Outback or Lancer wagon which aren't my cup of tea. Mazda had the "6" available as a wagon for a few years. I liked it's looks.... Kinda. 1 Link to comment
Marcuss
in 1954 the ford mainline offered a six cylinder I block eng that got 30 mpg. 30 MPG in 1954. Car manufactures today boast about getting that now. Totally unacceptable. I can not believe that in just shy of 60 years fuel economy is no better. But as to the wagon points. Wagons got and stayed for ever uncool when they had wood like paneling. You are totally right about the convenience and efficiency though. Link to comment
