Welcome to politics, enjoy your stay

Meh. I've had level-headed political debates aplenty. I was just surprised to find that the one here was anything but. You'd think that folks would realize that discussing things like that just breeds bad blood.

Well yes and no. Of course we have all had chill talks amoungst friends and it might seem like here it is a bit overly heated, however, I think I'm pretty ok in assuming that those of us actually doing the majority of discussing like verbal confrontation or arguing. For those of us that are like that, this is more fun than anything.

Thing is that there is debate and argument (positive), and then there is this (as in this thread). This is not debate any more than watching some angry person scream at a wall and berate it for twenty minutes is debate.

Well then you just walked into the superbowl of screaming at walls ;):P

But seriously guys, I love a good debate on almost anything. But once someone starts ranting there is no point in saying anything more, because the person is simply not listening to what you have to say or trying to understand your perspective. It's good to have strong views and even better if you can make an argument to support those views. However when you are so fixed in your ideas that you can't listen to another perspective or see it from a different angle, your mind and your views become stagnant. The same applies if you only surround yourself by people that share your view of the world. You fall into thinking that you must be right because all your friends agree with you. In fact, you just haven't been challenged in your thinking and neither have those around you.

Talking of which, I lost all respect for the thread when some of you supported your views by preaching racism and religious intolerance. Because when that happens you are allowing your emotions to overcome your intelligence. Both of these things have no real foundation other than ignorance, fear and bigotry. I think you guys are far better than that. ;)

This is just crazy. McCain and Obama are being paid to be senators! In the passed several years Obama has voted "present"! Obama is so indecisive that he couldn't vote "yea" or "nea" on 90 issues. It is Obama that is chickenshit! If Obama fails to return to Washington, he will be demonstrating what he wants to do to America. Obama wants to screw America with his liberal bullshit.

Speaking of chickenshit, Obama will only agree to a scripted debate. McCain wanted an open forum with unscripted questions from the general public. Obama would not submit to an open forum. What is Obama afraid of? Obama cannot speak without stuttering with no teleprompter.

It's official! McCain is a chickenshit motherfucker! I just seen breaking news that McCain wants to suspend the debates over the U.S. financial crises! What a fuckin' douchebag! If Obama goes along with him,he's no better than McCain and this country deserves the 4 year ass fuck it's about to recieve!

Obama's afraid of the same thing McCain's afraid of whenever a reporter gets close to Palin ;) It was Obama who suggested they get together and brainstorm on how best to help out the American people in the looming financial meltdown. It was McCain who went straight to the press with it for a photo opportunity. The American people aren't stupid enough to buy into McCain's"I'm willing to help the American people if the debates are postponed"bullshit.

Quick Vote Look on the bottom right and view the results for yourself. 70% think it's a political gimmick. Really? You don't say!

And if anyone can disprove this poll because it's on CNN,please....feel free to post a link to a"more reliable(ie:Republican spun news orginization not unlike a liberal spun CNN)" source. *I'd REALLY like to see this*

Hate is a powerfull word. I hope nobody hates me.

I am pissed off at the government:

These assholes could care less about national security. There needs to be a wall between the US and Mexico.

These assholes want us to foot the bill for criminal activity on Wall Street. These CEOs made millions while screwing the public.

These assholes won't let us recover our own oil.

These assholes want to tell me where I can set my thermostat.

These assholes want me to drive a Yugo while they fly around in private jets! Kiss my ass Algore!

These assholes believe that inflating tires and tuning up engines would put a big dent in our energy problem.

These assholes want to increase my taxes.

These assholes want the economy to be bad to get a black Muslim Communist in the Oval office. They did the same thing to get FDR elected. The Democrats prolonged the depression!

These assholes believe that government is the answer to everyones problem.

Asshole Obama wants to lower capital gains taxes on small business. Asshole Obama didn't realize that small business pay no capital gains tax.

Asshole Biden believes that FDR went on TV in 1929! There was no TV in 1929. The president was Hoover.

These assholes twisted the bank's arms to make sub-prime loans to people that should be renting! Nobody ever talks about preditory borrowers. These assholes got home loans with no intention of paying the note! It takes a year to forclose. How about free housing for a year while leaviing the bank holding the bag?

What sort if ignorant asshole signs off on a variable rate loan? That is giving the bank the authority to charge whatever interest rate they want! These ARMs should have been illegal!

I survived the Jimmy Carter era. I don't see interest rates at 18 percent now! Obama is a repeat of Jimmy Carter. I remember the double digit inflation and the double diget un-employment all too well.

You DO realize Redneck,I don't hate you because you're a rabid Republican,right?

Anytime someone tells the truth about liberals, it is called "hate speech"!

I have a serious problem with people who want America converted to a socialist-communist country. My father fought in World War 2 and Korea. Voting for Obama would be the equal of spitting on my father's grave! Before Dad passed on in the late 1960s, he made a statement that I will never forget. "Son; I believe that you will live to see America controled by Communist". Dad passed on in 1977.

As a child, I was taught the dangers of Communism. I remember being in first grade and participating in bomb drills and making my way to the school fallout shelter! All the other seniors here remember the "Duck and Cover" films. We thought we were going to get nuked. Now an ignorant electorate wants to put a Communist son of a bitch in the Oval Office. President Kennedy has to be turning over in his grave! Now that I am older, and opinionated as hell, I believe Senator McCarthy was right. Hollywood has been taken over by Communist. For being right, history has demonized McCarthy.

What a horrible, hateful thread.

I fucking LOVE this! I added it to my Packers group! Thanks wsdler for putting a smile on my face :D

To be completely honest that video confused me because everything in that video was the exact opposite of what the republican party stands for. It was made for satire but honestly that made absolutely no common sense. It can be proven that the content of that video is the exact opposite lol.

Except the part about abortion, because if a woman honestly wants to end their child's life, then they should have no say in what happens with their body. You people forget, you say you want the choice, but what about your child's choice? You people are all about every person having a choice but you are so quick to take away the choice of others when it is convenient.

http://www.pregnancy.org/pregnancy/fetaldevelopment1.php

In week 1 through 4 the most important parts form and by week 5 (sometimes sooner) the child has a heartbeat meaning it is a living lifeform. People who want to hurt themselves or another person are eighter committed or put in jail and we take away their choice. Even looking at this from a scientific point of view, you are killing another person. So tell me, how is this not baby killing? Liberals like to use science with everything until even the science shows what they don't want it to, and then it is amazing how fast they forget about science. Now of course if a woman gets raped then yes take that pill that will kill any type of cell formation, that is just common knowledge.

Also the gay issue; to be completely honest, no one cares anymore. What many people don't realize is most of us don't care what you do behind closed doors we just don't want to see it no matter if it is gay, straight, diaper, bdsm, fingering, and whatever else you want. I am, personally against "public display of affection" and so are most people in the US. Here is the problem, it is not an issue of acceptance, it is an issue of taxes. Yes, I said it, it is not an issue of willful acceptance, it is an issue of tax reform and forced acceptance.

Originally people wanted homosexual relationships to be recognized because of the tax breaks/laws and other stuff offered to heterosexual married couples. It was about an 80:20 split of 80% wanted the breaks, 20% wanted acceptance; however, there are many idiots that will jump of any bandwagon because they can because it makes them feel like they are worth something. The problem now is that the GLTB is deliberatly trying to force "acceptance" down people's throats which is outright wrong. ANY form of forceing something such as a personal belief on somebody is wrong, ESPECIALLY RELIGION.

Here is a tip for the GLTB community, this stuff like trying privately owned companies to "accept" the lifestyle by lawsuits is going to turn more people away from your cause. They are privately owned companies and they can do whatever the hell they want, they are privately owned. If you truely want equality then stop the pride parades and stop raiding Catholic churches, it turns people off, especially since the Catholics are your biggest religious supporters at the moment. If you want equality then go after the U.S. tax laws to include the civil unions and common law marriages. Once the U.S. tax laws include the civil unions and common law marriages, then what would be stopping the states from keeping the ban? Exactly. It all boils down to taxes guys-n-gals, We already love you just the same.

Now you are probably wondering what about those far-right Christian groups. If people are true to Christianity then there shouldn't even be an issue of accepting you for who you are. They might think it is wrong, but by not accepting you they are actually not following the teachings of Jesus or God. You will always have people that oppose you, anything anybody does will ALWAYS have opposers, so just move on. After all of this is accomplished than your last step is to get the DSM-V to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder. ;)

Don't respond to me with "zomg u r a gA h8er!" No I'm not, the GLTB community have gotten very far off from their original principles just like M.L.K. Jr. would be ashamed of what people have warped his good message into. His message was for equality and best man for the job, NOT for rap, affirmative action, and black people calling eachother "ni***rs." I want EVERYBODY to have the same standard, be free to to live their own life, and for the best person to shine no matter man, woman, black, white, yellow , red, green, gay, straight, Christian, Shinto, Muslim; I just want people to do it the right and smart way. Don't ride other people's coat tails like so many people like to do. Except PampersPete, he gets nothing but cake ;):P

Believe It.

Calculate your taxes under the candidates' current tax plans:

http://www.electiontaxes.com/

Here is what is wrong with your post. It not only is a ".com" which generally can't be trusted with reliable info, but it is made by a college professor using a ".com" website. An educator should be using ".edu" if they want use reliable information or be taken seriously. High School English 4 source citing (not even collegian level): Do not use .com as they are not reliable, use ".org" ".gov" ".edu" as they do have reliable information.

Doing more research on Jeff Gramlich on his wiki page it shows through his research that he is an obama supporter because ALL of his outcomes are in favor of obama even though he has no cited information other than "obama's tax cuts will help in a span of 10 years while mccain's support the very wealthy."

Another couple of questions for him from me. If he has supposidly recieved his PhD then why do none of the articles that mention his name refer to him as such? Why are questions about Gramlich being redirected to this "Bob Caswell" instead of going straight to Gramlich himself?

As for the University itself I can't say factually what the political leaning is for sure; However, Maine has almost always been a "blue" state and Portland, Maine itself is extremely liberal. The only mayor to have been republican since before at least 1970 has been Cheryl A. Leeman who served in 1988-1989 and then again 2000-2001 (note the dates and the people in charge/ events surrounding those dates).

Maine - liberal

Portland - liberal

USM and colleges in general - mostly kids saturated with the politics of their hippie parents with many who support center-right and always extremely liberal professors

So conclusion based a common trend seen here: This guy is a liberal who supports obama and therefore your source is biased and illegit; also, it says in the "about the site" and "about the model" sections that the whole thing is full of mistakes. Very much like gore's movie that thousands of scientists have come out saying that almost the whole movie is scientifically false.

On a completely different note, did anybody watch the debate? I make a point of mentioning this because it absolutely sucked. The format sucked and it was like a giant pissing contest between both mccain and obama. After an hour I was just like "both of you shut the f- up."

I don't get involved as much as the majority of you do in government, as I was a Employee of them for many years and I know what "really" goes on so factoring that in....here is my short synopsis of the debate.

I will do this....no you won't..You did just the opposite...no I didn't...yes you did....I can do this better than you.....no you can't look at my record...your record means nothing because you always change your mind.......No I didn't....did too..did not...vote for me........no vote for me...thank you we will see you all next week.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell....I just won't tell you who I thought was the NUT!

I personally think absolutely nothing was accomplished.

Yes, I'm sorry, you're absolutely right. .org vs. .com vs. .edu is a COMPLETELY reliable yardstick for credibility.

"Iraq has weapons of mass destruction"

"We will be greeted as liberators"

The justification of killing in the name of God (I'm not religious but there's the one commandment that I really like... actually the commandments are pretty cool... anyhow it goes something like this: "Thou shalt not kill" )

"I think it'll go relatively quickly, …Weeks rather than months."

Lied about the cost (and duration) of the war

no-bid contracts that went to Haliburton

Yellow cake uranium.

No child left behind

Breaking the cover of a US agent because Bush didn't like their spouse's politics (if it was a Democratic president the Republicans would have been screaming "treason"... too bad the dems don't have the backbone to do that)

The firing of US attorney generals that weren't willing to turn a blind eye to crimes committed by Republicans

The wonderful response in the wake of Katrina

"Global warming doesn't exist"

The death of habeas corpus

Less civil liberties than we've ever had in the history of this country

Alqueda stronger than they've ever been

More threats to US security than there has ever been.

More terrorism throughout the world than there has ever been

Torture

Dubai ports deal

Pulling troops from Afghanistan before the job was done and letting Bin Laden get away (I want that man's head on a stick)

I think if you're going to bring credibility into question you need to look at the policies that the party you're defending has put into place over the last 8 years. McCain supports pretty much all of Bush's policies with the exception of torture. How can you possibly support and defend more of the same?

Anyhow, under McCain, yes, the middle class will be paying more on taxes than they would under Obama and Obama will continue to give companies like Exxon/Mobile huge tax breaks whilst they continue to pull in outrageous profits. These companies don't need tax breaks. Lower and middle class families do. They are what drives the bulk of the economy.

Oh wsdler don't get me started, if you have read many of my other posts you don't wanna do that dude.

Tip of the Day: Drop it now

Calling my credibility into question and stating things that just aren't true aren't a formula for a good conversation especially with me. If you look at any of my previous posts I have backed them all up with credible sources and proven fact. So since this thread is taking on more of a lighter tone, I'm letting you know and giving you a chance to drop it.

P.S. Yes, you should have learned in freshman English in high school that .com is almost never reliable and in papers or when trying to verify something .gov .org and .edu are reliable 99% of the time. So yes all of those are much better compared to a .com run by liberal bias.
