UK school is split into three terms - Academic year starts at the beginning of September and first term runs till just before Christmas with a week off (referred to as half term break in the UK) in the middle. A two week or so break over Christmas and New year. Spring term runs then till the Easter Holiday, again with a half term week off in the middle. Easter holiday is again two weeks off (Normally the week before and week after Easter Sunday unless Easter is particularly early or late). Summer term then runs till Mid to late July, again with a week off in the middle. Finally it's 6 weeks off over the summer before it all starts again.
