Guest Pizaz Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Now, I do not want this post to devolve into a political fight. I'm just asking a simple question that perhaps someone has the answer to. As part of the health care legislation being considered in Congress, one of the provisions is a tax on medical devices. Does anyone know if incontinence products are included on the list of taxable medical devices under this bill?
DailyDi Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 "devices" usually reffers to machines and such, not consumables. Disposables especially are controlled by the market. Even if the tax goes up a few pennies, the big players will work to keep prices competitive.
curiositykilledthecat Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 diapers are considered health and beauty so no they should be same.
rusty pins Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 It's not right, but why should diapers be excluded from everything else that's going up and up in price? Not to get political, but this is a recession and people are hurting everywhere. Everyone needs money including townships, cities and states. The big difference is that cities and townships can make up their deficits by just raising taxes and there is nothing we can do about it! Same as health insurance, car insurance (except that some states are really starting to regulate companies that are gouging the public). The thing is, whenever there is a product or service that people must have, the utility or company that produces it can set their own price if not regulated. Supply and demand. Sometimes that starts a negitive effect that snowballs and creates a recession. Unfortunatly, instead of cutting back on the prices in a recession to make things more affordable for people with money problems, some companies add to the problem by increasing their prices. Soon people stop traveling because of the cost of gas or the charges to check a bag on an airplane. Now the hotels and tourest attractions suffer, lay off people causing even more people to be out of work with money problems. If companies make things affordable instead of always raising the price, then more people will be able to buy the products and that will lead to more employment and more money to be able to spend. Simple economics.
redneck diaper boy Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 The price of diapers will probably go up if you are consuming foreign diapers. The reason is simple. As America prints more money, the value of the US dollar will decline. The American diaper prices will probably remain driven by the market.
