InD
From : http://www.straight.com/article-115410/lon...-elyse-friedman "The Soother", a spare, quirkily empathetic tale of a man who spends his days tending to his demanding job and family and just wants a little tender care, so to speak, is one of five shorts plus novella in Elyse Friedman's (Waking Beauty) willfully bent, instinctually witty, and ultimately rather melancholy collection, Long Story Short. Like "Baby Luke", most of Friedman's protagonists live lives that have gone wrong somehow. Or maybe they were never really going to go right. Sounds rather interesting. Thanks for the heads up InD Link to comment
DailyDi
Her moving story "The Soother," about a middle-aged man who copes with intense demands from family and friends by visiting a prostitute he pays to coddle and soothe him, won Gold at the 2006 National Magazine Awards for fiction and was published in the Toronto Life summer fiction issue. A second story, "Lost Kitten," was also nominated for a 2006 National Magazine Award, and "Truth" was selected for the Journey Prize Anthology and appeared in Best Canadian Stories. Link to comment
