P.Bax.bignlittle Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Hello friends! I have finally gotten a Switch (late to the party, I know), and have been looking into what games to dive into. I've been playing Hades and having a ton of fun, but am looking into what is next and remembered how much fun I had playing Pokemon growing up. BUT Gold was the last game I played, and things seem to have definitely changed. Anyone have any recommendations for the best game to get that might be a good bridge? Thanks all! Penelope
Dragonet Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I know it's been two months since you posted this, so I'm curious if you've picked something up in the meantime, but: Brilliant Diamon/Shining Pearl are very cute Switch remakes of the Gen IV games ^^ Gen 3 (specifically Emerald) was the last one I played as a child, before falling off the Pokemon train a bit for a few years, so if you're in a similar boat, these can be a delightful way to get to explore missed generations! X and Y (Gen VI) are 3DS games, so not immediately relevant on the Switch, but I will nonetheless give them a recommendation since they were the games I played that got me back into Pokemon after my misguided "too old for Pokemon phase", and I can warmly recommend them - they're comfortingly familiar coming in from the old games, while still adding lots of great new features and twists, all with very cozy vibes. Sword and Shield were games where Pokemon tried to change up the formula at least a little bit - with arguably mixed success. They're a very safe bet for getting back into Pokemon on the switch, though, and even feature some multiplayer content! ^^ Scarlet and Violet are the latest generation. That's always a safe place to jump back in. However: these two games are notorious for issues with lag in certain areas - which bothers some people more than others. If that's a dealbreaker for you, these may not be the best place to jump back in. If you want something a bit different, Pokemon Legends: Arceus came out a couple of years ago and was very well received! It doesn't stick to the traditional pokemon formula, instead focusing a lot more on the exploration and collection aspects of things, and is set in the very early days of the pokemon universe.

Penelope @P.Bax.bignlittle I would get Pokemon Scarlet OR Pokemon Violet. Scarlet and Violet play almost the Same, Except that Scarlet has a setting in the past, and has pokemon specific to that point in time. Violet has a setting in the Future. They also has DLC available for download. I have them both, and I have played Violet all the way to the story mode completion. Scarlet, I can play anytime Both Violet and Scarlet are easy to figure out when you get used to the maps, and the controls. Violet was very first Pokemon Game I played Good Luck! Brian

Brian That is super helpful to know Brian! I was already leaning toward Scarlet so that might just put me over the edge to dive in. I'll have to let you know how it goes! 1
~Brian~ Posted February 1 Posted February 1 @P.Bax.bignlittle I am glad that you have decided on which game you want to play. Playing Scarlett, I end up thinking that you want to play with the ancient Pokemon which that game does really well. One thing I can tell you about this game is Newmona, The girl that helps you in the story, goes to the same school that you do, so make sure that you are completing the tasks that you need because sometimes you need to do a task before something else happens. Also be careful because one of the things that you have to do is make sure that you're bringing your pokemon up to a good level, because she is a champion and there's a few times when I would win, but later on in the game it got really hard and then it got really interesting because I would have to make a decision based on what you're doing and I'd have to switch pokemon in and out because they get tired. Be advised that there are some parts of the map that you might not be able to see for awhile or that you might not be able to access right away. When you end up helping your "mount" You will end up having him get stronger and you will need that strength to be able to move on sometimes. So basically things are not always what they seem. I noticed also when I was playing that while something was on the map, it might have been harder to see, but once I got the ability to fly and to climb, I was able to climb up and down cliffs and I was able to access camps that you couldn't get to unless you had those abilities. I'm playing a extension of a downloaded content story myself. In a different area and a different place, so what I used to do doesn't actually work very well sometimes and you have to be able to use the environment. Make sure to keep upgrading your Pokemon and make sure they have plenty of rest. That will come in handy later on especially when you deal with situations. When I asked a friend about what game I should play because I was a beginner a couple years ago, they told me scarlet and violet. When I went to the local gamestop, I also talked to the game advisor and they advised me that the only difference between the two games is whether you're going to fight future pokemon or ancient pokemon in the past. Everything else seems to run the same, so once you get the hang of Violet for example, you can easily do scarlet because you know what to expect. I started with Violet and I loved it! And I thought games like this were going to be boring and too hard but the story keeps moving forward and Nomura and her friends actually help you. If she gives you advice that's a good sign and she can help you, but you have to make the decisions yourself and sometimes you have to be faster on the buttons because of something happening but normally in a fight it'll be easier in the beginning and get more difficult as you progress but every time you progress you open new areas on in so it's not a boring game cause things change from time to time and it's really interesting what they want you to do. In the next couple of weeks I will probably re-up my Nintendo subscription because I wanted to make sure that I had enough money to pay my bills this month and then I will figure out how to do that Once I do that, you and I may want to exchange friend codes or something and maybe we could play together I've never done it with another person that Was human, meaning that it's a player instead of the computer. As I said I love this game and I thought that it was gonna be a boring one and hard to understand, which I found not to be the false! have fun, and try to catch them all! Brian
