How did you get diapers as a kid/teen?

I got mine from a drugstore close enough for me to ride my bike to, but not the one my family normally shopped at. I'd transfer them from the bag to my backpack and then hide them at home.

Once i got my license I would seek out out of the way pharmacies to search for cloth diapers and plastic pants, which some of the mom-and-pop stores still had back then.

I stole them from the nursery in a tennis club several times.  But, mostly, bought Pampers toddler size, 12 in the purple box with the baby, from a local drugstore, Kmart and grocery store.  Once bought the 48 count toddler size Pampers purple box from a department store with a children’s section.  A few times I bought Johnson&Johnson toddler size, again 12 in the box.  Still wearing these diapers, but have to make them.  A little time consuming, but I won’t wear anything else.  The construction of them is bulky, and just feels so good!  There’s lots between the legs and on the sides.  You really feel diapered, and babyish.

I stole them from babies or toddlers the were staying with us and baby sitting etc. I did get a few used ones pee only but soo nice and warm..........

Initially, I took cloth diapers from my sister's diaper bag for my baby niece. I sometimes taped Pampers together to be big enough for me. These were the rectangular Pampers (before the hourglass shape).  I had the opportunity to acquire a large quantity of cloth diapers, and I could fit in them if I doubled them instead of folding them. Plastic pants were not an option for me then, so I could only poop my diapers and not wet them.  This went on from age 13 until I graduated from college. After college, I bought Ambeze adult diapers at a local pharmacy. They looked cool but didn't work well.

I still had "organic" access to diapers until I was 10, because I wet the bed (this was the pre-pullup era), but even then, I still liked to try different things, so I occasionally pilfered a diaper from people we visited or who came over with toddlers. Once my parents stopped buying them, I rode my bike up to a drugstore and bought a package of diaper pins, then I made my own from towels and pillow cases and the like, using cut out white plastic shopping bags as plastic pants, until my stepdad found them and yelled at me when I was 13. Then, I took 20+ years off from wearing diapers, but eventually, it came back, and I bought a pack of XL youth pullups that I could barely squeeze into, before buying low-end medical diapers that could be bought at pharmacies. I decided one day to Google adult cloth diapers, which led me to Rearz, who at that time had a storefront, and I bought my first bag of ABDL diapers, which blew my mind.

I stole from relatives that had been on visit in the start, they left the diapers.

I don't remember what age I started buying diapers, but I bought them from local medical stores.
I moved out when I was 18 so it was a few years before then.

In elementary school my closets were the length of a wall.  I only had a few clothes. So, my close became storage for whatever.  One day I found frilly snap plastic pants.  I substituted mom's kotex belted maxi pads in them.  

I was too busy as a teen and didn't feel the urge.

When I got to college and was living alone I went to local drugstore to buy the green Depends briefs.  I also used their undergarments with either buttons or velcro as they were millions of times quieter than the plastic.

Wow!  Lots of juvie delinquents stealing diapers way back when!  When I was a teen I had no job, no money and no diapers in any size that would fit me.  Attends and Depends didn't really hit the stores until I was 17 or older.  I made due with any type of plastic bag, like trash bags and paper towels.  Not what I would call great diapers by any means, but good enough at the time when I got home from Junior High for an hour and a half before anyone else came home from work.

Being the youngest, and even one of the youngest in my extended family, I didn't have access to diapers until my eldest niece was born. Also as I shared a room with my brothers for the most part until I was 13, I really couldn't do anything with diapers. After I got my own room I used towels, or whatever other sorts of comfortable cloth I could find. At that point the bulk was enough.

After my niece was born, at some time I swiped one cloth diaper and one disposable. 

We lived in a subdivision in the middle of a corn field about 5 miles from the nearest anything.

I had a paper route and used some of the money…ok most of the money on diapers. I’d ride my bike to a drug store and put the bags of diapers Pampers or Huggies in a backpack to get them in the house to my room. Just like DailyDi, Once I had a car it was easier to get bigger packages of diapers. I got pretty good at making diapers fit me by taping a few together to make a bigger diaper.

I usually got my diapees by going poopie in my pants when I was a 7, 8, 9, and 10. I hated using the potty as a kid. So most of the time it was just easier to go in my pants whenever I had to poopie. I also used to take my sister's diapers and smell them and convince my mom to put them on me.

But the SAP in the pampers etc made it soooo good back then.

I first tried making my own homemade ones (rags, paper towels, and underwear, but they never worked well). Then I started with sneaking packs of diapers my parents would get for donations/collections at our church (around age 8-12). Eventually, I worked up the courage to walk (and eventually drive) to the nearby pharmacy and bought a few packs now and again (early/mid-teens). After having moved out I can buy them freely.

When I was younger, I was able to pilfer a few from my sister's room since she had a bedwetting issue.  Then for many years, there was nothing until I had a half -brother born.. then I was able to pilfer some here and there for some time until those too were gone.  So then I had to make something.   It wasn't until my senior year in high school and later where I was able to buy my own at the store (which was rare since I rarely ever had any money).

My diaper obsession initially led to stealing of diapers from family or friends with babies.  I would hit the jackpot when we had toddlers visit.   (Circa 1988) When I had my learners drivers Permit I snuck out with the car a few times to buy Pampers from the local grocery store.   I would sneak in and out my bedroom window and hid diapers in a pair of cheap old speakers in my closet (remove back covers).   Once I got my own car and full license it was where ever I could purchase.   Lots of binge and purge cycles.  

At the time I thought there must be something wrong with me to obsess over diapers and I was convinced I was the only one in the world who has this obsession.

I didn't, I just made makeshift diapers from plastic bags and white t-shirts. Sometimes I fantasize about how I could go back in time and acquire some diapers and plastic pants as a child, then hide them in a safe place for my present time self to find.

There were no real disposbles availble for most of my teen years.    I made my own out of towels.    There were plastic pants available in the better pharmacies around with rather crude "pads" inside them.   There were some flat adult diapers in the Sears catalog.   I ordered these when I went to college.   Amusingly when I picked them up in the store, the rather young clerk insisted on opening the outer (opaque) packaging to "make sure they were OK."    I think she was genuinly curious when she saw adult diapers.   That was back in the days when I was mortified that things like that would happen.   A while later I would likely have engaged her in conversation about them.

My mom was a babysitter for dozens of kids over the years. I had an endless supply of diapers and pull ups that I would steal.

I remember when one of my nephews was being potty trained.   His mother made a big deal to tell the family to watch for signs he has to use the bathroom.   A few moments later watching TV with him I told him to keep using his diaper as long as he wanted, I would!    I don’t think it impacted his potty training but this thread made me think of that!  Lol

Not much. I'm living separately from my parents, fortunately they are both alive, and relatively healthy. I still remember the day when I, as a 6 years old, found my baby plastic pants in the cabinet and how they theatrically got rid of them after I tried to wear one in front of some family guests... In the sixties there were only cloth diapers and I didn't have access to any so made makeshift ones from old white under shirts and vinyl shower caps. When I was sixteen I ordered real adult diapers and plastic pants from the Wards catalog and picked them up at the store. I went through several pairs until I left for the Navy when I was nineteen. When I got out of the Navy four years later the first thing I did was order more diapers from the Wards catalog.

Back in the days the thing to use were cloth diapers. As I had no funds to pay for cloth diapers and plastic pants, nor did I know they had diapers and plastic pants in sizes that would fit me my options were limited, I stole a lot when ever is had the chance. Caused a lot of stress and always weight heavy on me, luckily was never caught, the desire to wear was so much stronger in the end it was worth the risk and stress.
