cheech Posted February 1, 2024 Posted February 1, 2024 Good morning all, long time lurker reading @oznl and @Little Sherri updates and day to day convo. Thank you for posting. I was wondering if anyone as any comparison to the rears mega inspire vs the incontrol bedry night? Are they the same diaper with different tapes?
Little Sherri Posted February 1, 2024 Posted February 1, 2024 Hi, @cheech - I have both products in my current inventory, and they are definitely not the same product with different tapes. Rearz produces a dazzling array of slightly dissimilar models, and I have in the past tried to sort out what was just a cosmetically divergent version of another product with, say, different tabs, or a different print, with very minimal success. I'm a car guy, so I've always been interested in what models share their bones... the badge-engineering days of the '80's and '90's that begat 4 warmed-over variants of the GM "A" body... "No, no, the Buick is NOT the same car as the Chev that costs $10 K less... well, okay, they're indistinguishable from the side view, and they use the same engine, transmission and suspension, but the Buick seats are velour..." These days, they do a much better job - you wouldn't know that a Mitsubishi Outlander is a Nissan Rogue, or that a Jeep Grand Cherokee shares DNA with the previous generation Mercedes ML class (now GLE). Good luck applying that level of forensic anthropology to Rearz, however. They seem to legitimately make two identically-sized, identically-priced pickup trucks, that don't share a single part. One is electric and the other is powered by a turbine that burns kerosene. SO, the Mega Inspire+ has about the same capacity as the BeDry Night, and they're both plastic-backed, white diapers with two tabs on each side, but that's where the similarities end. The Inspire has tapes, and a landing zone, and the Night has hook/loop tabs that engage a mesh overlay, although both work very well. I suppose the hook/loop option has slightly more potential to remain engaged in its employment after several restructurings, but in practice, the Inspire's tapes are among the best, capable of surviving a few open/close cycles at least, and really, how many times does one need to open their diaper? Because good tabs don't move, re-snugging is not a frequent requirement. The Mega Inspire+ is wonderfully comfortable, has a capacity that is can be difficult to fully use, before other factors impose the need to change one's sopping underpants, and, they pay no heed whatsoever to discretion. They are a big, fluffy, bulky diaper, and proudly so. The BeDry Night, on the other hand, goes about its task in a more efficient, European way. They remind me of NorthShore's MegaMax in that respect. They start out as a fairly compact diaper, relative to their capacity - I can wear one under jeans and go run errands during the day. However, as they do their work, they expand until you realize that you can't bring your knees together anymore. Whereas in the Inspire, you almost couldn't do that from the moment you put it on. They differ by 1000 ML in their fantasy-land ISO ratings (12,000 ML for the Night, 11,000 for the Inspire), but in practice, I challenge you to probe those limits without sitting in the bathtub for the last 6 hours and doing yoga while you wet, to get the upper rear corners. Cost-wise, they're pretty close, at least in Canada - $3.72 CAD each, size L, bought by the case, for the Mega Inspire+, and $3.91 CAD each, for the BeDry Night. However, Rearz runs a few good sales a year, so in general my bogey for what these things cost me is around $3 a piece, making them a screaming deal in a world where some fancy products want $5 or even $6 a unit. I hope this helps!
DL-Boy Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I'm late to chime in here but I bought Inspire diapers first, when my supplier (along with everyone else) was sold out of my go-to brand, BetterDry. I thought the Inspires were okay but I was expecting at least a fair fraction of the ISO capacity and not getting it left me a bit meh. I then bought a case of InControl BeDry EliteCare and a case of InControl BeDry Overnights. I found that their capacities were so close to one another that it wasn't worth my spending extra for the overnight variety again. I was dubious of the hook and loop closures when I discovered that they had them, because I've had less than stellar success with hook and loop in other brands in the past (XP-5000, for instance). Honestly though, I prefer InControl's closures over Inspire's tapes and landing zones. I just bought two more cases of EliteCares tonight even though my go-to provider has BetterDry again and they would ship from a warehouse not more that 700 miles away (as opposed to international UPS shipment from Ontario, Canada to Dallas, Texas). I thought with the separate website for Incontrol products that maybe they spun off from Rearz company but tonight that theory was disproven as UPS shows my Incontrol diapers as being shipped from Rearz. I feel that the capacity of the Incontrol BeDry EliteCare are better that MegaMax, of which I have half a case of tie-dyed color left that I'm probably going to sell. I think the issue with MegaMax leaking for me may be the design. They gap around the back of my legs and do feel a bit thinner than EliteCare. I've got one bag of Crinklz, one bag of Crinklz Buccaneers, one bag of BetterDry along with a few singles of Buccaneers, Aquanauts, Astronauts, Crinklz (OG), BetterDry and one single MegaMax tie-dyed, one Inspire plus one bag and seven Incontrol, plus I'm getting two cases (72) next week from UPS. Incidentally, I boost all of my premium diapers with one Wellness Excelerator booster followed be an AbenaBoost pulp booster next to my skin. The first one gives increased absorbency and the AbenaBoost gives superior wicking.
rusty pins Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Recently got a package of Incontrol BeDry and a package of Rearz Mega Inspire. As far as absorbency I think they both are on par with each other and about the most absorbent diapers I have seen. What I don't like about them are the side panels. Both diapers have shorter side panels so if I normally wear a Large in any other brand, there is plenty of overlap for taping them on. With both of these diapers there is just enough overlap of the side panels to barely get them taped on. If I reorder I will go with the next size up for decent overlap. I think the Mega Inspire swell up more in front, definitely not a diaper to wear in public. I do like the Mega Inspire tapes better as they are traditional tapes to tape on a plastic backed diaper. I do wish they had dual tapes in case you have to reposition one. The BeDry tapes are more like hook and loop and for me they do not hold. I have to use diaper pins through the tapes to pin them on. Otherwise both are a great and very highly absorbent diaper that lasts me all night (I wake up to wet but I pee a lot at night).
DL-Boy Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I'm reviving an old thread to pass along some urgent info about Rearz and InControl to all our members in USA who like and use them. I discovered early in the week that both Rearz and InControl (same company) are "pausing" (tempoarily) shipments to the USA due to the changes in import regulations in the US. Specifically the "De minimis" rule has changed which allows some small consumer shipments to avoid import taxes (if I understand it correctly). The email I received from both Rearz and InControl claims that the pause is temporary while they explore potential solutions to the change. That being said, I bought three cases of InControl BeDry EliteCare a couple of days ago, in hopes they'll last until the end of July and by that time hopefully either POTUS will either reverse the decision (yet again) or they will have arrived at a solution and started shipping to the US again.
