Incontinence and doctor visit follow up

Recommended Posts

I know I am not on here a lot posting recently, but following up on my colonoscopy of a couple of months ago, I wanted to go over a couple of things that have recently changed in my life.

The first is that I was going back in due to an issue with a snapped upper tendon in my left arm that connects to the bicep muscle.  I actually did the damage about 1.5 years ago, but I had read that there are surgeries that allow for it to be fixed, but in my case the doctor said that they could fix it, but in most cases it ends up about the same and in some cases gets worse, and instead he said that physical therapy was a better way to go in regards to spasms I was having when I lifted thing in certain ways.

The reason I brought this up was that when I went on site to fill out my medical passport (they now keep medical records that they provide when I am referred to a specialist or any doctor for medical procedures), I found out that my medical passport list me as incontinent. I could remove this information, but at this point it is on record for the doctors I normally visit, so I left it in my records. When they sent me for a MRI scan (prior to being told they would try physical therapy), I was provided prozac to calm me down, and was informed by the person that called me before the procedure to make sure I wore a diaper during the procedure to keep from leaking on the table. So when I got the MRI all I was wearing was a hospital gown and my diaper. No doubt the women that helped set me up on the MRI table and helped me get back out could see I was wearing a diaper. With the prozac, I wasn't all that responsive after the MRI was completed, so needed help to go back to the changing room for my clothing.  Glad they make you have someone else drive you home, since there is no way I could have done it.

Second was that I have recently read some post about peoples bladder capacity, and was curious what my capacity was about 2 years ago when I first started to post on here. I found that back in late 2021 my max capacity was about 7 ounces (207 ML), I needed to go to the bathroom at around 4-5 ounces (120-150 ML), and I had the urge to go at around 2.5-3 ounces (74-89 ML).

I recently kept records of my bladder capacity and have found that they have dropped from in 2021, which makes sense considering I normally just let my bladder leak whenever it needs into my diapers. I have now found that the most I can hold before letting it go on my best day is around 5.5-6 ounces ( 162-177 ML), I need to go to the bathroom at around 3.5-4.5 ounces (104-133 ML), and I have the urge to go at around 2 ounces (59 ML).

As a side note, people ask how you can explain that you wear diapers to someone you are dating, and I have found that if you are dating someone young, they will typically break up with you, but if you are dating someone in an older age bracket, they normally are not as concerned since many of them have the same issue, or had been with someone who has the same issue. The bottom line is that I have had a lot better luck being with women 70+.

Don't worry about that!  The thing is that you got that done, and you are dealing with medical issues that need to be dealt with.  I had my first colo in June, and I ended up going through it TWICE because they wanted me to use the GO Prep garbage, which I could not drink enough of to get a clear view of the colon, so they offer me the MiaLax and Gatorage method, and I was sent back upstairs to the floor to make sure that I could complete the task.  I had to YELL at the doctors because they THINK that EVERYONE gets the same inpatient options, and I could have done it in ONE SHOT had I been given the MiaLax/Gatorage.  I had to spend 2 days in the hospital, and was changed 27 times during that.  I also think that my shoulders/neck pain problems were made worse, cause they have to change me, and they had to make sure I was FLAT.  So because of that, I ended up asking for pain meds a couple times cause the sparsity was INTENSE after all of the sickness I dealt with.

I am sorry that you had to deal with that problem with your arm.  I've been dealing with my shoulders (Pinched nerve), and arthritis and bone spurs in my neck.  I've been in Pain Clinic 3 times already in 2023, and in the ER 8 times in 2023 because I cannot find out what the hell is going on.  I've had Steriodal Injections 3x, Trigger Point Injections in December of 2023, and now a medial Branch Block will happen in January, 2024 and an RF Ablasion (Burn the nerve endings that cause the pain in my neck) will happen in February and March, and then I'll see a Ortho Specialist in April to see if this helped.  Next week, I need to check in with the PCP, and find out whether he wants me to go to the Headache Clinic 40 miles away, and if that referral is for a neurology doc.

With regard to computerized records: These help ALOT:  ANY of docs or specialists can pull my medical records off of the Epic/MyChart system.  I also list as IC both ways. and I am glad that I did that:  its on the record, and everyone knows because its there.  When you go in for stuff like this, they don't want anyone driving themselves, and that is for liability and safety reasons:  when I went into Pain Clinic, they INSISTED I have a driver, and they WAIT with you UNTIL that driver arrives :)

The problem that I see is, that there are people out there that think that wearing a diaper is somehow bad, or detrimental to someone.  I've been disabled ALL my LIFE, and understand that people WEAR DIAPERS for a reason:  I found that if they are accepting of it's really NO BIG DEAL to most, and they understand.  Especially if the person is disabled or incontinent.  Many of us wear, but we deal with it in different ways, and I think that some people WON'T understand, but if they REALLY loved you, and they do love you they will understand.  if not, then, they are not the right fit:  That's the way It works sometimes.  I've learned a lot from people here, and from past experience, and if someone doesn't want to date you because you wear and need diapers, then the loss is theirs and NOT yours :)  There are PLENTY of people here that will probably agree with me that there are people who wear diapers that are awesome and cool, and loving, and understanding, because they live that life, and that is all they know, and there are many people out there that may feel the way that the younger people do, but if they had to live the life of a IC or disabled diaper user/wearer, they might find that those whom they don't understand understand more then they think they do - a Diaper is a friend, not a detriment, and sometimes, people don't get that.

That's why for me, being an Adult baby and Incontinent, I see nothing wrong with wearing diapers and in fact, Diapers should be normalized and accepted in society. There is nothing wrong with wearing an adult diaper and I think society is the problem and not people who wear diapers Wearing diapers doesn't mean something is wrong, bad, or detrimental to you or someone. Being an adult baby, disabled, and Incontinent, Diapers are a NO BIG DEAL for me and they are normal for me. I wear them permanently and oftentimes in the warm summer months, as a pair of shorts and underwear. I have learned not to make a HUGE issue out of wearing diapers because eventually, people will also go back to diapers when they enter a nursing home, or assisted living facility. As for me, I know I wear diapers for medical reasons and I know diapers help me deal with being incontinent.
