Summer struggles rework chapter 1

Lily woke up to the sound of crying again. She looked over at her clock on her nightstand and saw that it read 2:30 am. She sighed and took her pillow and tried to cover her ears. Lily was an only child until 10 months ago when her parents had twins. While at first she was excited about the idea of younger siblings once they got here she was both overwhelmed and annoyed. With everything going on in her home her school year was horrible, she was constantly tired due to being woken up multiple times through the night, she was irritable from all of the screaming, and she just wanted things to be the way they used to be. After about 20 minutes she fell back asleep and soon after her alarm went off.

 

Today was the first day of summer school. After somewhat of a bad year she had to pass her summer class to make it to the next grade. Lily got out of bed and stretched. She tiptoed over to her door and peeked out. Not seeing anyone she made her way to the bathroom to pee and shower.

Downstairs Lily’s mother and father, Heather and John were each feeding one of the twins after a long night. Once they heard the shower cut on they looked to each other.

” I guess your daughter finally decided to get up” John said

heather let out a small laugh.” I guess so. She starts summer school today.”

John sighed.” Well hopefully she doesn’t mess that up like the school year. She shouldn’t even be in summer school if she just did her work she doesn’t have anything else to worry about. She barely does her chores as well”

heather nodded.” I’m just as disappointed in her as you but we have to see where she goes from here”

John was about to respond when he heard the shower turn off and just nodded and went back feeding the baby.

 

Fresh out of the shower Lily headed to her room and quickly brushed her hair and got her clothes on. Deciding on a nice summer dress and some flip flops. She headed downstairs and into the kitchen where she saw the twins Adam and Andrea both in their high chairs faces covered in what looked like chocolate and greedily sucking down their bottles. She then saw her father finishing up his breakfast her mothers super yummy chocolate chip pancakes. She adored those gooey chocolatey pancakes and took her seat at the table but didn’t see a plate for her. She looked around seeing her mother washing dishes when her father cleared his throat.

”if you didn’t decide to sleep in you would have had some pancakes go get some cereal or something” he said as he took his plate to heather 

Lily was heartbroken hearing what her father had said. Did she really sleep in late? She woke up when her alarm went off.” Oh Um ok” she said before just getting up and heading to the living room and grabbing her backpack. She got her phone and headphones and headed out the door.

It's a bit too short in my opinion
