I suppose right now I don't need a diaper check because it's obvious my diaper is messy.

Probably around 1960.  I would have been 2, had I messed my diaper my mom would have smelled it.  I wore to bed until I was almots 6 and my mom never had to check my diaper.  First, she would have to remove it anyway for me to get dressed for the day, and second, it was already known it would be wet.

As a DL, I change my own diapers so I never need a diaper check.  I know when my diaper is wet and/or messy.  I do admit it might be kind of fun now and then to have a GF pull the back of my diaper away and look down inside to see just how messy I am.
