Diabetes And Incontinence

How many doctors have told bedwetters to limit liquids after supper?

Don't they realize that thirst is one of the symptoms of diabetes? Add to this the dry-mouth sensation I've gotten from incontinence medications I've tried in the past, such as Detrol. I have to have something to drink!

Everyone in the world tells me, for every other reason, to INCREASE my fluid intake. It rinses out UTI's when they happen, it helps me manage my weight, it keeps migraines and IBS at bay....

And following the rule "Don't drink anything after X o'clock" doesn't stop me from wetting. It just makes things more concentrated.

Your experience?

In my case, I'm on a diuretic already, so I pretty much have to drink a lot. Of course, I also go a lot.

At night, I notice no difference between the nights I drink a lot before bed and the nights I drink a little... if i'm going to wet the bed, it'll happen regardless, if it doesn't happen, then it doesn't happen regardless of how much I drink.

Sorry if this reply's no help.

Never seemed to work for me at all. I just consume a reasonable and normal amount of fluids throughout the day and let what's going to happen, happen.

[This is correct advice in the absence of other obvious problems....which your Dr should have checked for...diabetes is rare in the children the advice was originally intended for]

Sounds like fixing the bedwetting needs to take a back seat to your general health....bedwetting is annoying but not usually fatal....but I'm famous among restaurant staff around town for my "drinking problem"...lots of glasses of water at dinner....

There was a phase a while back where I'd drink a bunch of water before going to bed and would wake up in the middle of the night...but right now, I'll get home, take on a quart or so of water, walk the dog for an hour (and pee on that dog walk, part of the male and/or diaper advantage), and then go to bed..I'll sleep through the night, often even my GF coming to bed, then pee when I get up in the morning....

I think in your case I'd load up on water at dinner, then wait until it flushed out before going to bed, with appropriate protection and possibly a wetting alarm and a pee jar in place.

Western docs are stupid. I suffer from weak kidneys, which affect the bladder, I have to get up a few times during the night, I have for years and years. 9 years ago I was introduced to Chinese Medicine, which is herbs, accupunture, food therapy, and massage. This is a complete medical system that has been used in the same way for several thousand years in China(these people had one of the most advanced cultures). When I met this doc I had been through western docs and their specialists, they were making me sicker with their meds. Prior to meeting this Chinese I knew a little of their culture and their medicine, I had a few years of martial arts and I was a personal trainer. I had my mind somewhat open, after a few treatments it became evident that the Chinese really knew their stuff. This doctor became a personal friend and began to teach me about their medicine. I have done my research very thouroughly and the proof is out there, documented success stories of thousands and thousands people living when they were given weeks to live. If a person watchs medical reports you see so often meds that are found to be more harmful than good, that is the way of drugs. Here is some food for thought, when something does not work it does not take long to find out, look how often wed medicine changes its tune on things. Chinese Medicine has not changed in thousands of years, it is the same then as now(why, because it works). May I suggest poking around the internet and see what you find out about Traditional Chinese Medicine. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

ps One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing the needless suffering of so many due to idiot docs who know nothing about the human body and how it works.

No meds for me I'm afraid, I just don't trust the blurb and what I'm told. In UK a lot also depends on where you live and whether you have to rely on the 'National Health' service. Many people suffer needlessly at the hands of the National Health because they simply do not care or have the time, if truth be told. The older you are the less they care.

At the end of the day I let my body decide what to do... if I'm ill I follow instinct. Sleep if possible, drink plenty of fluids at any time and watch what I eat. The Chinese do indeed have a culture to be proud of, and I respect them.

Oh, and I use my nappies to keep my system clean with drinking plenty. Convenient and natural rather than holding it in, and have benefitted from wearing them, I promise you. Only the mess goes in the toilet, not in the nappy because again that is a prime source of infection and problems.

Common sense prevails!! lol :D

Actually the current thinking on that is not to limit fluids. As this only makes the person want them more and as you noted makes things more concentrated. Making sure that you get enough liquids through out the day is the most important, and if you have a problem with UTI's limiting will only make them worse. If you wet the bed use with a pad, absorbant underwear or a diaper, as was said you can die from bed wetting, but you could from a UTI. :)
