"But she's right there, mom! Look!" Rory insisted.

Daisy excuses herself frlm thr table to go and have a look. She makes sure to be silent sk the girl wont hear. Daisy creeps up behind and grabs her gently so she doesnt hurt her. "Mom dad come oht here." Daisy says holdjng the small girl gently but firmly

Hope shrieked when Daisy grabbed her from behind. She did her best to wiggle her way out from her grasp, but wasn't successful.

Maria sighed, and set Lily down in her highchair. She went outside with Brian, and saw the little girl with dirt on her face and hands from digging in the trash. "Daisy, let her go. You're scaring her."

Rory tagged along behind Maria. She stared in surprise as the mystery girl struggled to escape Daisy's grasp. "Who is she, mom? Why was she goin' through our garbage?"

Daisy just rocks the girl while humming tk her which gets hdf to calm down.

"Daisy, obey your mother and let the girl go," I order. To Hope (even though at the time I don't know yet this is your name), I say, "Come inside and have some hot food with us, there is plenty to share."

When my dad tells me to let go of the girl i do as i am closer tl my father than i am with my mother. I then go back inside and continue eating my dinner at the table.

"I don't know honey, just go eat your dinner. Mommy will come inside." Maria said, not wanting to frighten the little girl more than she already was.

Hope shook her head, and tried to back away. "Don't tell Mommy I was eating."

Rory sighed and went inside, but continued watching from the window.

"We have no idea who you are nor your mother," I say to Hope. "You are welcomed though to come join my family and enjoy a real meal."

Hope looked up at Brian, it was almost winter, and she didn't have a coat on, so she was shivering. She wasn't sure what to do. Her mother had certain rules about what to eat and when to eat, but she was so hungry. "I don't know if Mommy will like that."

"Mommy, I'm hungry," Lily whined from her high chair as she banged on the tray, not happy that everyone was paying attention to some strange little girl while she sat trapped in her seat waiting to eat.

"Lily, be a good girl, or you won't get any ice cream after dinner." Maria said gently, as she scooped some homemade Mac and cheese into a small plastic bowl and set it on the tray, knowing any efforts to get her to use utensils, would be in vain.

Lily grinned and gleefully dug into her dinner with her hands. "Mmm, it's yummy," she mumbled between bites.

I am sat at the table eating my dinner. I soon finish it and excuse myself from the table and i go to the bathroom

"I am a police officer," I say to Hope. "Your mother will know that you are safe here at this house. See the patrol car parked out on the street?," I say to you for evidence. Maria and I can see you are in need of warm food and more clothes.

Hope eventually nodded in agreement, and looked up at Brian, deciding to trust him. "Okay. Just don't tell her I was eating please."

"We wouldn't tell her," I say to you. Maria and I guide you into the house and set a place for you at the table. "What is your name?," I ask after you have taken a few bites of your food.

Hope turns red, seeing everyone is staring at her while she digs into the food, eating as if she was starving, which she was. She looked down and set down her fork, thinking maybe they were telling her to stop. "I am Hope." She said softly, her voice sounding as if she had rehearsed it many times.

"Why were you eating our garbage?" Rory finally piped up, unable to stifle her curiosity any longer.

"Rory!" Maria scolded, looking at her daughter. "Don't be rude. I'm sorry honey." She said to Rory then Hope.

"What? I'm not being rude, I just asked!" Rory said innocently; at the age of six, she had no clue why simply asking someone a question was wrong.

Hope stared down at her food, it was half-eaten already, and she wanted to eat more, but she thought she was being told not to, what with everyone staring at her.

"Because, Hope is our guest, and she's nervous."

Rory stared down at her plate. "Okay, sorry," she said quietly as she shifted uncomfortably in her seat, not liking her mom's tone of voice when she still felt fairly certain she'd done nothing wrong.
