A Genuine Concern (Please no my country is better than yours comment, or political discussion, etc...)

So the new Government of the UK seems set to increase rules on the internet and other things (or at least to try to) in a variety of ways... This started with the last Government and had some pretty stupid rules for porn being made in the UK which forbade certain things in pornography made in this country, though strangely they have no problem it being imported or viewed in this country, just not made.

Everyone everywhere should be very concerned when any government trues to control the minds of it's people <_< And it's not just the UK- it happens here in the US as well :( History has shown time and again that you can't control people against their will unless they have no means of fighting back, and then the same thing happens in the end anyway, albeit more slowly. Those who really want to do something online can do it; it just takes knowledge of how to circumvent the restrictions. There's still some risk doing that since the richer government will be watching for people doing that  but when too many people choose that option, the government will no longer be able to keep up with them and they will have to concede defeat :P

What in the hell are you talking about? The internet has always been neutral, not prioritizing packets based on content. Keeping it the same as it was IS net neutrality.

Because I tell you, Comcast is 1000x worse than the government. And I want them to have as little power as is humanly possible.

Comcast has zero power... Not sure what the heck you are trying to say here but it makes little sense.

That being said I would be worried about a government that internees to look that intrusively into the lives of its people. That's some scary stuff you're talking about Elfking.

I would be concerned. Is there any way to hope for the best but prepare for the worst? Say, by doing everything you can do now to protect and insulate yourself?

Concerned, yes.

Believe restrictions are likely to succeed, no.

The current systems rely on past experience to craft present regulations, future considerations don't even register.

Necessity is the mother of invention, if the current internet regulatory structure targets large segments of people, a new system will be created, one that is hidden from public view.

The dark web already does much of this and most of the general public has no idea these sites are out there.

Similar to trying to call someone when you have no idea what the phone number is and there is no phone book or directory assistance.

When a communication system can be set up cheaply in minutes and it takes very significant amount of resources to discover and disrupt it, authority will never gain the upper hand.

The only way restrictions are likely to be successful, is if repressive governments dominate the world before we gain the technologies to successfully use the option to leave.

And even that might not be enough to exert control, current repressive governments can not completely control exchange of ideas.

People will never stop talking to each other, whether in person, or electronically. Efforts to restrict communication are doomed to fail, the resourceful will find a way, even if it's smoke signals.

sorry to say it but, yes you should be concerned, and yes they could do that, and it wouldnt be to surprising either. unfortunately thats all there is to it, this is indeed a possible outcome of these circumstances.

It is always bad when people try to limit anything sexual, net or not. If it doesn't have a victim, then it should be legal. Period. People have no right to judge what consenting adults do. And yes, Elf I would be worried about it. A few years back the same sort of thing happened in the US and several AB sites were torn down by it.
