"Come on peanut, time to get up," she said softly, picking Gracie up. Gracie rested her head on Maggie's shoulder sleepily as Maggie carried her to the living room where the rest of the family was waiting. "Look, this is mommy, jie jie, and mei mei," she said, pointing to Ashley, Gabbie and Emily respectively. "Do you want to see mommy?" she asked, holding Gracie out to Ashley. Link to comment

justagirl4fun Posted December 28, 2014 Author Share Posted December 28, 2014 Gracie allows Ashley to take her and sits on her lap, studying her face for a few minutes, recognizing her from the photos Maggie had showed her and the few times they'd Skyped while Maggie and Gracie were in China. Then she glances over at her new sisters, smiling shyly when Emily waves. Link to comment

Finally she gets down and starts wandering around the room, checking everything out. "Emily, why don't you show Gracie some of your toys?" Maggie suggested, hoping the girls would play together. She comes back down and sets them down on the floor and offers Gracie one that looks like her, since the dolls looked like girls from all around the world. Will you be okay with them for a while?" She dragged her huge suitcase and carry-on to the downstairs bathroom, where the washer and dryer were located, and started sorting the dirty clothes into piles. Link to comment

Gabbie had seen the whole thing from the other side of the room and walked over, taking the doll from Gracie and giving it back to Emily. "That's not nice," she growled, not liking the new kid being mean to her sister. Link to comment

justagirl4fun Posted December 28, 2014 Author Share Posted December 28, 2014 Gracie just cries, not understanding what Ashley is saying and not knowing she'd done anything wrong. In the orphanage she'd spent most of her time alone in a crib and never learned how to share and interact appropriately with other kids. Link to comment
