Magic: A Reluctant Heroine (Updated July 6th)

Recommended Posts

Newest Story. Uploaded to here, and not my blog yet, simply to give you guys a teaser. It's here on DD For a reason, so, just because there is a lack of Diaper or LG or AR content as of now doesn't mean something of the sort at some point soon. I'm taking this from a plot/story standpoint. Don't expect anything of that sort to be forced. Simply enjoy a story. A diaper story set in *Le Gasp* A world with super heroes?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Super heroes are idiots.
Ever since the.. whatever happened and people actually started getting real powers and abilities things had escalated to stupid levels in a hurry. Sure, it was cool to be able to lift things with your mind, or to punch a hole in a tank, but what did that really get you? Trouble, that's what. When people started developing powers other people noticed and soon there were aliens joining in the mix.
I nnow, I sound crazy, but come you've all seen the green guy right? Yeah, he's an alien. He's not the only one but that's not the important part.
The important part? I want absolutely nothing to do with them.
Sure, if I was normal that'd be obvious but, you see, I'm not exactly normal. On a scale of one to ten you can rate my power-set at about twelve. I call it 'Magic' because it might as well be. I basically do whatever my imagination can think of as long as I focus hard enough. Yeah, it's pretty crazy.
It's why I stay out of these things. I don't want it, I never have, never will. I just want to be normal is that so hard to ask?
Apparently this crazy guy thinks so. Right, can you see him? The guy over there on the left trying to rob this bank. Nobody sees him yet, nobody knows, he hasn't drawn that rediculous gun, at least I think it's a gun, from his bag yet. How do I know? You weren't listening very well were you. Magic. I Just know and I hate that I know because I know something else.
He's not alone. There's three more of them here in this place and all together they're packing enough firepower to level the place and the next three banks they plan on hitting. Freaking lasers or something. I don't know. The worst part? They aren't going to let anyone walk out of here alive. Not even the mother and her kid over there in the corner. She's just waiting for her husband to finish depositing his check so they can go out for a meal. Just normal people things. The kind of things I wish I could do.
So, what do I do when I'm faced with all this death and a group of idiot's with lasers? I take my place in the line as it moves forward towards the bankteller.
Whoa, I can hear you now, screaming at me over it. Why don't you save them?
Why don't I? How do you know I haven't? You hear that cracking sound? That's the glass giving in as the real hero breaks in to save the day.
Yep, there he his.
All suited up in his nice fancy techno-armor. Technically he doesn't have any superpowers of his own. He's just a genius. His suit's made of nano-something or other, I suck with science don't hassle me, basically he's a six on the power scale when he's wearing it. Without it? He's still a six because he can just build a laser out of toothpicks and a can of diet coke.
One EMP, three concusive blasts, and a witty oneliner later and he's saved the day. He tells the gaurd he detected the technology and didn't think that tech like that being in a bank was a good thing. That's not what how it went down.
He knows it. I know it. The guard probably doesn't.
He glances over at me for a second, nobody but me notices, I give him a weak smile before I turn to the lady at the counter. "So, about that checking account?" She laughs at me and just goes about her job. Everyone does. With the guy in the suit of fancy armor carrying the robbers away there isn't anything else to do.
Stuff like that is normal these days. It's become habit to barely blink at something that a decade ago would have gotten screams and faints. Not today. The couple and their kid go off to have their pizza and I open a checking account and deposit the minimum into it to keep it open and running. I tell the lady I've got more and that I'll deposit it in a few days but I'm lying. Being a freak doesn't pay much.
The walk home is both a long and a noisy one. Police sirens blare, people chat on their phones, and the city around me hums with a million other noises. I tune them out as I head into my apartment.
He thinks he's being clever, or sexy, maybe mysterious, he's sitting in my desk chair with a glass of scotch waiting for me. He's the guy I mentioned earlier, in the suit of nanosomething armor, the one I told about the robbery. He cracks a smile at me and offers me a glass of scotch.
Politely I give him a, "No."
He frowns and swallows down both his own and the one he poured for me. "Thanks for the heads up Amanda. They were packing some serious heat. If you weren't there things would have gotten ugly."
He reminds me of the gift I don't want. The gift I used to send him that simple message. Okay, so it wasn't that simple. I Sent him a location, a threat assessment, and a 'Get your ass in gear' message directly to his brain. I simply grunt and head over to my refridgerator in search of something to drink. I know what's in there before I even open it. I don't need to stand there and look like an idiot while I try to decide what I want but I do anyway. It makes me feel... normal, I guess. I settle for the bottle of water and sip it slowely. Finally I turn my attention to the half-drunk across from me still sitting in my chair. "What do you want Peter."
"Don't you know already Amanda?"
"I'm magic, I'm not psychic."
"Coulda fooled me with all those alerts you keep sending straight to my brain."
"Get to the point..."
"Yeah, sorry. They wanted me to ask you to join them again."
They are.. well the super heroes I ranted against earlier. The ones I called idiots. Peter her is a member of a prominent team of them. He's kind of their tech expert and he supplies the money that keeps their base up and running. Well him and the U.S. Government but it's mostly him these days. Peter made the mistake of telling them about me a year ago after we'd first met. Needless to say my abilities.. impressed them. This was easily the tenth time they'd asked me. I'd lost track of how many times they'd asked.
I sighed and finally closed the door to the fridgerator. "The answer is still no."
He shrugged and gave me a knowing smile. He knew I didn't want this, didn't want to be a part of any teams, definitely didn't want to be a Heroine. He knew the entire reasons why. He hadn't told them. Sometimes I wonder on if they knew why I didn't want to be a part of a team if they'd keep asking. Peter didn't tell them, he wouldn't either, it wasn't his secret to tell. "Right, I'll tell them as much Amanda. Pretty soon they're gonna wonder why though."
"They don't already?"
"Right, okay, the Paranoid ones do. Most of them understand it's your decision."
"And.. those that don't?"
"They don't want someone with abilities like your's running around unsupervised."
I laughed. I couldn't help it. It was pretty funny. "Peter, remember the old saying: Who Watches The Watchers? They don't have any right to worry about me."
He stared at me for a while before he seemed to form an answer. He hadn't been expecting that. He'd known me for a year now but it was the first time I'd ever said anything like that. His response hadn't been surprising. He downed a shot of scotch before sighing. "Yeah. I guess we don't." He shambled off to the door dejected and fully aware of the annoying conversations that were too come with his 'team'. Really, he was the advisor. The advisor that had to tell them another time that I wasn't going to join them and I'd all but laughed at their threat. Yeah, he was gonna get an earful.
"Peter?" I stopped him, I felt bed. Kill me, I'm human. "Tell them I'll keep doing what I am now. If I pick something up I'll tell you, or one of them if I have to."
"Yeah, I knew you would. You're a good person Amanda." He was holding back. He wanted to say more. It wasn't the Magic telling me that much. It was being his friend. Hell, he was my only friend, I knew him pretty well.
"What is it Peter?"
"Hah, sure you aren't Psychic?"
"Positive. What is it?"
"I.. will you at least meet them? You've saved a lot of people, even doing what limited bits you have. They'd feel a whole lot better just meeting you in person. I'm the only one that's actually met you."
I sighed. He had a point. I hated that he had a point. I didn't want to. I really didn't but he was a friend. I sighed and relented. "Fine. Shoot me an email or something."
"Wait.. really? I'm.. I'm not just drunk as hell right? You actually just said yes?"
"Don't make me regret it Peter."
"Right! I'll set a date!" With newfound vigor Peter stumbled out of my apartment and down to the Limo waiting for him out front.
Walking over to my bed I collapsed back onto it with a groan.
What the hell had I gotten myself into this time?
If super heroes were idiots.. was I one now too?
Probably.
TL;DR of an excuse for why this came so late. I had a surgery on my wrist a while back. I've mentioned it a few times in the past. Ontop of having life hit me and having very little time on the internet the wrist decided to hate me. So when I wanted to start writing.. I couldn't. On a good note: I've got details for this finally written down (other than in my brain) and Plotted the next couple of chapter's out in heavy detail. (Le-Gasp!) So, Hopefully it won't take me so long for the next chapter. This one's a bit longer (Nearly twice as long as chapter one), introduces some more important characters, and start's some fun~ (Before you ask, Diane is not Wonder Woman, I just liked the name. >_>)
