As the padding wicks up moisture, the shell is stretched tauter, which gets rid of tiny folds in the plastic that slide around as you move. Also, the SAP goes from a rigid crystal form to gel the more it absorbs. Some of the "crinkle" in a dry diaper is actually caused by minute grains of SAP grinding together. Picture massaging a beanbag or sock filled with sand in your hand. Similar phenomenon. Link to comment
