Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Urine Incont. Plus Diapers

Recommended Posts

I am in diapers for 10 years or so for nights and since 2005 or so 24/7.

I am on meds now for awhile for pain and muscle relaxers as well as anti inflamatory drugs.

Thing is for the last 3 months can not #2 even with a high fiber diet or suplaments. To the point of fealing sick.

Only way to have a bowel movement is with Enemas, started out with Fleet but read was bad for long term use as it would inhibit regular movements.

{ie} Make you dependant on them! Thus my change to just warm water.

I have an apointment with my primary care doctor {a new one for me} who will proberly freak when he/she see me in a Diaper. Just like the last one I saw.

Anyone have IBS if so what was done to help it

so i am assuming your ibs makes you constipated as opposed to have excessive runny bowel movements... in which case there are stool softeners that help. Rather than seeing a primary care phycisian i would recommend seeing a gastrointestinal specialist as they are more likely to have more experience in treating people with various kinds of IBS.

My primary care phycisian was not familiar with many ibs treatments, but upon seeing a GI doctor i started on a medication and for the last 6 months or so have had no problems.

bt i am not sure why a doctor would 'freak' at having a patient who wears diapers. In fact for a doctor to act anything other than in a professional manner is unacceptable. However, for a doctor to recommend you see a urologist (especially if you lie about being incontinent) or even recommending see a psychiatrist (this may happen because either the doctor does not understand your reasoning for wearing, or the doctor believes your wearing is masking a deeper underlying issue that may benefit you to have treated)... for a doctor to recommend either of these courses of treatment does not really constitute 'freaking' but rather the doctor 1. looking out for your interests and 2. covering their own asses liability wise

Hi, just few things first usually but not always IBS with constipation is more present in women. Most IBS in men are with diarrhea and/or with alternating constipation. Second pain meds muscle relaxtants slow down the intestine and can cause constipation. this brings to question the reason for taking these to start with. If it for back pain especially low back pain there could be a underlying problem with a nerve entrapment and needs to be seen to by doctor so it does not turn in something worse. the same nerve area can cause incontinence and not the kind some on who like it can cause your ladder from emptying completely. You would leak from the overflow nut could die from the kindey damage. I not try to scare you but I know because I have problem and it not fun having to stick a cath up your penis.

I wore diapers for my IBS condition in childhood, and fortunately my condition subsided over time where I could control it with diet and understanding my bodies' signals better - ie when I needed to go potty. Still, it took me a long time to gain control over IBS and I still have flare ups from time to time due to stress or eating certain foods. I was potty trained very late due to my IBS, so I got used to wearing and using my diapers as an older child.

In all due respect NO doctor will ever "freak out" seeing a patient in diapers. I have said it before, and I will say it again, and that is that they have seen it all many times before.

Ok I over reacted I was sent to the Uroligist who after test said I had simple case of OAB and Urge Incont.

The pills{vesicare and 2 others} I was talking did not realy help at all.

I was told that you have to give it time 1-2 weeks to work but never did. They only things it did was make me sick. Just about everything on the list that comes with them.

And the Primary care doctor was not a "PPL Person" who basicly shook her head at me for saying I would just wear Diapers over taking meds that made me sick.

When I mentioned I had to wear if I wanted dry pants I was told A person your age should not need Diapers

Is that the "freaking out" you were talking about? I don't call that freaking out. Okay, you're into diapers, which is fine. But imagine from the doctor's point of view: thinks you probably don't like wearing diapers, as most people don't, and in which case you shouldn't wear diapers and probably should give the medication some more time. That doesn't sound like overreacting to me, that sounds like a reaction that would be fair for 99% of the people. That you happen to be one of the 1%, your doctor couldn't know.

My doctor didnt have a problem when i showed up at the first appt. in a diaper, since he knew the discussion was about incontinence. I was then referred to a urologist, that diagnosed me with OAB and started me on new meds (still waiting for them to work. My gastro. doc. diagonosed me with IBS. Both times I first meet them wearing a diaper under my cloths. Nothing was said. They are working with me but i have been 24/7 for the last few months. Just work with it. Hopefully it will get better.

I got tagged with an "Acid disorder of the stomach" and even with the prilosec it makes enjoying diaper time difficult to plan ahead. If I try to take stomach meds to keep me from getting the runs without actually having the runs I get plugged up. It's like playing Russsian roulette sometimes. i have made a better effort to increase the soluble fiber in my diet and it does help but being on a fast food diet due to finances ddoesn't help.
