A Little Observation Of Mine

Recommended Posts

I've noticed a sort of similarity in DL's mostly but in some AB's. It seems to me that alot of DL's or AB's are either really into video games or heavy metal music. I'm not trying to be judgmental b/c i myself am into both and it may not apply to everyone but anyone else notice this too?

i think anywhwere you get a large group of people with the majority being men there are going to be a large number of video game uses and heavey metal fans (because statistically it is men who play move video games and listen to heavy metal music.. not me being sexist, just how the numbers are)

Man, I hadn't really got that impression ... with so many Christians in the ABDL world, I figured I must be one of the only metal heads. On that note, check this band out:

I saw them open for Danzig a few months ago. Mindblowing stuff. The production is so crisp, you can hear every word, even if you aren't used to blackened vocals. Beyond the Permafrost is one of my favorite albums ever.

Mostly DL, but kinda AB at times (mostly, I literally can't afford to really indulge in serious ABness), myself. I like videogames, but I'm really more of a casual gamer. I'm not into games like serious gamers are, and tend to make them them mad with my rampant use of the Action Replay, Game Genie, controlers with turbo feature, etc... And I mostly hate heavy metal. So there's at least half a nail in the coffin.

Ahh, I can't agree, but I can't disagree. I dig heavy metal and video games, but I also really dig other stuff. I like writing and making music.

I can see where you are coming from, though.

It's just this type of thing is something I wouldn't pin a stereotype to. At least not quite yet.

I don't like video games, and I hate Heavy Metal music.

Hah, I'm different.

I never noticed a lot of Christian ABDL's though... if anything I've seen quite the opposite. Everyone I talk to is an atheist... which is kinda odd (for me) since I grew up mainly around Catholics.

DL and haven't been into video games or heavy metal (not that I really was, punk, SKA, and hardcore were my things) for close to a decade now.

Good god, does Glenn still think he is relevant? The guy has a lot of talent and I love his voice, but his ego has pretty much ruined everything he has touched. The garage days of the Misfits were excellent (at least the recordings, since I was way to young to even know about it back then), though very rough. Samhain was OK (too metal for my tastes) until he ditched everyone but John and started Danzig. Danzig was great for the first 3 albums, then he released Aria and went nuts again :(

I've seen him twice and the best was at Hammerjacks in Baltimore. Now there was a cool little club that shouldn't have been torn down!

I will admit I have a hard time not singing along with Mother or Twist of Cain comes up on my iPod though ;)

i'm gonna raise my hand for another 'HATE metal, not crazy about video games'. granted, i play pokemon and strategy games (and have a weak spot for splinter cell games) but really... i'm super anti-metal.

but yeah, by nature of the statistical cross-section of the community you're gonna get more manly stuff. it has 0% to do with diapers and 100% to do with sex and gender stereotypes. *shrug* it happens. XD

Well, I'm a Christian. Southern Baptist, to be precise.

My kids and grandkids are in to the game thing. We have a PS3. The favorite is Guitar Hero.

DL, and I am a Bible Based Evangelical Christian.

I love all music and have a personal preference for anything except rap (probably because it is mostly lyrical).

I play video games because it is a modern form of entertainment. I heard a figure a couple years ago the the gaming industry was bigger than PORN, SPORTS, and MOVIES COMBINED!!! I believe it lol.

Look at wow 14 million users x $15/mo = $21 million per month. Man, that's alotta diapers!

"The sports business industry is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the United States. Our annual survey of the size of the industry estimated the sports business industry last year at $213 billion. It is far more than twice the size of the U.S. auto industry and seven times the size of the movie industry." http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/index...mp;featureId=43

"After a miserable fall season (financially anyway), executives were worried about the numbers for 2007. But hooray for Hollywood, the holiday movies have helped the industry earn a record $9.62 billion in one year." According to consulting firm Hudson Square Research (HSR), the video game industry’s recent surge has finally allowed it to catch up to the movie business on a global basis. Whereas the games industry surpassed this movie industry back in 2005 in America alone, as well as gaming surpassing the music industry in 2007.

Analyst Daniel Ernst reports that in the past year, from March 2007 to March 2008, global video game (software) revenues grew 38%. Global software sales reached $26.5 billion, only slightly behind the film industry’s $26.7 billion. The rest of the year he anticipates global software revenues to climb another 31% to $34.6 billion. Hardware revenue, on the other hand, will see a 5% decline to $18.9 billion.

As both a long time head banger/punk and an AB I think I can shed some light on the apparent connection for you.

It's well known that Metal shares many similarities with Classical Music. For instance, the pieces are usually long, have many changes of tone and pace, not to mention solos.......a tune within a tune. Listening to Classical Music is known to increase intelligence, so it figures that listening to Metal does the same. Do you need to be intelligent to enjoy diapers? Yes, I see us AB/DLs has having reached a stage of "enlightenment" that sadly many "non enlightened" people will never reach. It is a sad fact that many people will never know the pleasure of a padded bottom.

It's also a fact that us Metal Heads have a great imagination. For instance, only we play air guitar, and only we can fully understand the intricate finger movements and chord changes that are required to do a complicated Eddie Van Halen solo on an instrument that doesn't actually exist. This same imagination makes us great at ageplay, and allows us to ponder the idea of wearing a diaper.

The connection between computer games and diapers should come as no surprise. Playing a game requires great hand and eye coordination, a skill that is best aquired by years of trying to put a diaper on yourself whilst laying flat on your back in the dark.......all without waking your parents!

The "Mozart Effect", has been accepted by those in neuroscience however I cannot find any research that backs up your claim that metal and classical music have the same or similar effects on the brain. In fact I have only found a study that suggests metal to be harmful. I know this study was done on adolescents but I would like to point out that I listened to metal and ICP (rap) at that age and still continue to do so.

"Heavy Metal, Rap and Adolescent Behavior There is widespread concern about the possible negative effects on behavior of listening to certain types of music, particularly in adolescents. There seems not to be a great deal of systematic study of this topic but a recent report by Kevin J. Took and David S. Weiss in the journal Adolescence (1994, 29, 613-621) is quite relevant. The authors studied the relationships between listening to heavy metal and rap music and adolescent "psychosocial turmoil". Subjects were 12-18 years of age (average 14.6 years), equally divided between the sexes, who were patients under some treatment for various behavioral and psychological problems at a military medical center's adolescent medicine unit or similar facility. Their parents were attached to the military. Questionnaires revealed differences between teenagers who preferred heavy metal and rap compared to others who did not. They had poorer school grades, more behavioral problems in school, and more sexual activity, drug and alcohol use and arrests. The relationship was stronger for males than females. One obvious conclusion is that the music caused, to some extent, the behavioral problems. However, further detailed analysis of each student's background revealed that the most troubled group exhibited serious behavioral problems in elementary school, generally before they started listening to heavy metal and rock. Thus, troubled students may be drawn to these types of music and no clear causative relationship exists. Generalizations from these findings would be premature. The sample does not represent a cross section of adolescents in the United States, the reliance of questionnaires, even with reliability checks used in the study, is subject to some error and the possibility that music could promote problems in already troubled teenagers was not investigated. More research is needed." http://www.musica.uci.edu/mrn/V2I1S95.html#metal

Years ago I read a story (I can't find it unfortunately) of an experiment where plants were exposed to different genres of music. classical and rock (there may have been more) but the findings showed that the "classical" plants grew healthy while the "rock" plants didn't do as well and actually worse than the control plants who weren't subjected to any music.

While I LOVE heavy metal I have a hard time believing it has similar "Mozart Effects" on us. I would like to see a study done where people are subjected to all genres of music while measuring their brain activity.

They probably played them lots of Whitesnake and Bon Jovi.......that would explain the adverse reaction.

I disagree, my education didn't start until I started skipping school to see bands play. I learned more in 5 minutes in the mosh pit than weeks of sociology classes, and I didn't know a thing about sex education until I learned everything you need to know by listening to Bon Scott of AC/DC. A teenager will learn more by reading the lyrics on a Metallica or Anthrax album than reading most lifestyle guides, and once you've seen Kiss perform in full makeup you learn that in life, it's all about making an impression.

As for gangster rap, it's good to see a youngster taking an interest in politics.

generally studies done more than ten years before are not given as much credibility, especially given the change in social values, along with the great strides in technology and in scanning and imaging the brain, along with an increased knowledge in brain functions... but still.. interesting study.. i'm gonna have to look it up and see how they measured 'behavior'
