Congrats, @oznl! Some days, I don't know whether to thank you, or curse your name, but either way, I wouldn't be where I am today, if I hadn't started reading your story.

Well, yes.  I'd like to thank both of you for your company and support along the way.  I was going that way anyway, I'm sure, but it's made a big difference to know I wasn't doing it on my own, and that there were the two of you with a similar approach and family situation doing pretty much the same.  It's now 5 1/2 years since I went full-time during the day, and 4 years since I went into nappies full-time at night as well.  I still just love it, and I can't believe I've never regretted it for a minute.

They are 2" standard baby diaper sized. I use two on each side. They are metal tops.

Oh sorry - they looked like plastic to me in the photo.  I use 3" pins these days - they're more robust than all the 2" ones I've used.

  3. If she changes your nappies, then who's in control of nappy changes?  If it's Mommy, then you shouldn't be deciding when you're changed, or what you're changed into.  Who's responsible for making sure your nappy doesn't leak?

Who decides when you can have snacks?  Chocolate, sweeties etc?  You shouldn't be helping yourself.

Parental controls on your internet use, and on your phone.

Hope you have a good time!

I like the dritz locking pins.

    https://www.amazon.com/Dritz-Safety-Pins-Diaper-Colors/dp/B001HZOZS0?th=1

The head is two pieces, the outer pice moves up and down. With the top in the down position, it can't be unpinned, or pop loose.

Thanks.  I think I'd have to import those from the US - they're not on amazon.co.uk as far as I can see.  I've been buying my pins from NappiesRUs here in the UK.  3" long, all metal with a locking cap.  Not perfect, but they're strong and long enough.  The dritz pins look to be a bit shorter, and I'm wary of plastic caps as they can fail without warning in my experience.  Anyway, I'm stocked up now!

The few times I've been out in them I've had surprisingly few chafing issues.  I've found plastic-head pins to be rubbish though.

Yes, I've been surprised at the lack of chafing.  The plastic-headed pins I was using were OK, but I had to look out for when the heads started to crack, & bin them before they disintegrated.  I've now got a stock of metal-headed pins again though - they fail gradually and obviously, in my experience.  First the paint starts coming off, then the head starts rusting, then it's time to bin them.

I wouldn't want to change a terry nappy anywhere other than at home, somewhere private such as a hotel room, or at an ABDL event, where there's always a changing room or two, and everyone knows what you're up to anyway.  I've changed disposables all over the place, including fields, woods, motorway service stations and cliff tops.

I'm fairly slim, and that probably helps hide the bulges, or I like to think so.  I don't worry about it much these days though - I just don't want to be in anyone's face about it.  They can suspect what they like, but I guess nobody's ever rumbled me so far.

  6. Ever since I went full-time into nappies I've been wearing terry nappies at night.  I use 4ft terry squares, folded in the Chines fold, with an additional cloth soaker pad.  This gives a big absorbent wodge of nappy between my legs, and it will easily last the night without leaking.

I've always assumed this sort of set-up wouldn't really be practical for daytime wear.  I can't get my knees together, and have to walk with a bit of a waddle.  The nappy feels very bulky when I'm wearing it, so I've always assumed it would look pretty bulky from the outside too.  But I like wearing terry nappies - that's what I was in when I was a real baby.  So a couple of weeks ago I thought perhaps I'd give it a try for daytime wear.  And guess what - they don't appear to be any more noticeable than the padded velcro nappies I was normally wearing during the day.  I added a second soaker, which means I can usually get through the day until bedtime.  They feel good, they're comfortable, they're babyish.  I can only change into a terry nappy lying down, which means I can't change in most public toilets, but then I rarely do that anyway.

So far I've been out and about walking the dog, doing the weekly shop, staying overnight in a hotel, attending an ABDL event last weekend, and in about an hour I'm off to my local hospital for a blood test.  All this in a big terry nappy with a bit of a waddle, feeling little and feeling good.  And nobody's going to notice.  I've usually been carrying a couple of spare nappy pins and a Snappi just in case of catastrophic failure, but it's not happened yet (touch wood!).

In a few weeks I'll be changing out of dungarees and into shorts for the summer months.  I doubt I can get away with my terry nappies under shorts, but I'll give it a try anyway.  Mummy will soon tell me if they're too obvious!

  7. Occasionally I'll clean one with hot water and a nail brush, if it's got a bit crusty.  Once or twice I've boiled one.  But generally they stay fine.  That's all night every night and a fair bit during the day as well.  I've usually got 2 day-to-day dummies on the go.  One is on a strap for daytime use - it's nearly always dangling on its clip under my top layer of clothes, for easy access.  That'll have to change soon when the warmer weather arrives, & then it'll be in my pocket when not in my mouth.  The other is not on a strap & is for overnight.  During the day it lives on my bedside table.

Presumably great minds think alike 🤣

Indeed.  Me too.  And as for wearing terry nappies at night, I always do, unless we're away on holiday or staying somewhere else that means no washing machine.  We've just come home after a week away, with me in disposables.  It was a big relief to pin myself into a dry terry nappy last night.  I didn't have any night time leaks while we were away, and in face haven't had any for a long time.  I suspect that may be in part due to using booster pads at all times, whether in cloth or disposables.  A Betterdry and a booster kept the bed dry while we were away, but I always worry a bit when I overnight in a disposable.  I suspect the booster cups my leakage area better than without, so reduces the risk of wee tracking along my skin to the outside world.  Anyway, I don't exercise any control over my wetting these days. When my body says 'go' it just happens, on my side or not.  I did have a leak while we were away, but only because I maxed out an Overnight one evening.  I was on a wooden chair, so no harm done.  And alcohol was involved - it was my birthday after all (2 again, if anyone wondered).

Today I'm in a cloth nappy with 3 cloth boosters to celebrate being back in cloth.  I should be OK till Mummy sends me to bed this evening.

  9. I wear one type of washable for daytime in the summer, and a different type in the winter months - the winter ones are too bulky to get away with under shorts, but hold more.  At night I prefer terry nappies - they never leak for me, but they're too bulky for daytime.  When we go away I switch to disposables, and I like to try all sorts of different ones.  Betterdry if I've got to be a bit careful someone might find them in my bag, but preferably printed - Astronauts, Overnights, etc etc.  For long walks I wear Tena pullups as they chafe least and don't disintegrate with wear.  So - loads of different ones.

What washables do you use? I've been looking at the various cloth offerings on incontrol and am tempted to try some out.

I posted a bit on this on anther thread yesterday.  I'll try to find time to post a fuller account - I'd guess there aren't many full-time washable wearers about, so my experience is probably potentially useful to others.  Watch this space...

Long story short, does anyone have any tips and tricks, helpful hints?

Where to start?  Firstly, I'm in cloth nappies full-time, and have been for about 4 years, and part-time for years before that.  I wear disposables only when we're away on holiday without access to a washing machine, and for long walks, to avoid chafing.

As far as leaking overnight is concerned, that hasn't happened to me for a year or two.  I'm wet every night, but no leaks.  I wear different nappies at night from daytime.  My nighttime nappies are terry squares (4ft square) with an extra washable soaker pad, folded in the butterfly fold (aka Chinese fold, origami fold). I fasten the nappy with a Snappi at the waist, and pins at each thigh.  The objective is to keep the nappy pretty tight up against me, with no gaps to allow leakage at waist or leg.  I tuck the fabric in round each thigh as well.  Then a pair of large plastic pants - big enough for there to be no risk of the nappy getting out at waist or leg, with elastic taut enough for it to keep my nappy properly enclosed.  Finding the right pants is important - I've been wearing Gary polyurethane pants for the past year.  They are expensive, but they're bombproof, and they fit me properly.  I've no idea how long they last as I've been alternating the same 2 pairs for the past year, and they're still as good as new.

What will fit you depends on body shape, but the principle of leaving no gaps is key, whatever your shape.  My waist is 34 inches, my Gary pants are Large size, to give an idea of what sizes work for me.

My experience of other cloth nappies overnight is limited, but my daytime nappies do work overnight, as they are a snug fit.  Again I use an additional soaker. They're Mediums from the Dotty Diaper Company here in the UK).  I wear Medium disposables overnight on holiday, and I've found that the addition of a soaker makes leaks a lot less likely.

Of course if you drink too much you'll saturate any nappy, but 'normal' fluid consumption is easily handled by a cloth nappy overnight once you've worked out what works best for you.

    Good luck!

I am starting to become an occasional bed wetter, which is what the start of what I wanted. It is very easy to wet all day long, which is what I wanted. What I hate is the massive amount of trash it creates that is just sitting in a landfill. There is tremendous guilt there. Full stop.

Mainly for that reason, I'm in washables apart from odd times such as holidays and long walks, when that's impractical.  Now I don't feel guilty.  Have you tried using washables?

For many years I’ve had a pre-existing health condition.  It’s not major (now, thanks to a whole bunch of surgeries) but very occasionally, I experience bouts of a cardiac issue.

Hmm.  I'm going for cardiac tests on Tuesday.  Probably nothing, but there have been a few worrying symptoms. If I need to be admitted to hospital at some point in the future I'm pretty confident that Mummy will bring in the nappy supplies periodically though.  Betterdry rather than Astronauts I hope...  Good luck with it oznl.

  15. I've been avoiding it since I went into nappies full-time.  I used to love asparagus, and there are farms around here growing it.  But it's not a great loss for me, since I've lost most of my sense of smell now.  That means asparagus no longer tastes like it used to, and is consequently no longer worth eating for me anyway.

Whereas, now, sometimes, I actually do forget about it.

Well yes - I don't think about it a lot of the time.  Even though I'm generally in a thick cloth nappy.  My routines are all ones that have adapted to wearing full-time, so they're just that - routine.  Even wetting usually just goes on in the background, and often doesn't make me start thinking about it.  I suppose that's where I always wanted to get to - as much awareness of it as a baby.  No idea why that's what I wanted, but it was ingrained in me, and always will be.  And I'm pretty much there these days.  Of course I'm always being reminded I'm in nappies, but that just gives me a happy feeling - no adrenalin rush, no worries, no connection with feeling I ought to be behaving differently, or being careful in any way.

  17. My other half (wife/Mummy) sees me naked and in wet nappies all the time - it doesn't matter to either of us.  Nobody else outside the AB scene knows I'm in nappies, so although I'm usually in a wet nappy in front of them, it's always discreetly covered up.  As for naked in front of others, I wouldn't go there these days in the vanilla world.  I'm clean shaven from the neck down, & going public on that isn't top of my wish list.  Sooner or later I'm going to have to go semi-public with things at the doctor's or hospital, but I'll face that when it comes...

  18. One of my daughters has been vegan for years, and I was vegan myself for about a year a long time ago.  The key things to remember to include in your diet are proteins and fresh veg.  If you do that, the only thing you may be short of is vitamin B12.  You can get that from supplements or from yeast products.  Good protein sources are pulses such as lentils, split peas, tofu.  There's some in wholemeal bread too, but I wouldn't rely on that entirely.

The main problem with following a vegan diet is that you have to be able to cook.  Fast food is unlikely to cut it. Hope this helps.

  19. When adult nappy ads come up on the television I sometimes suggest to Mummy that perhaps she ought to try them.  She's not keen for some reason.  Can't think why - they're obviously the latest thing in underwear.

I like the Fairy Liquid washing up ads too - particularly the cartoon baby in a thick cloth nappy riding a motorbike.  Mind you, the lack of any plastic pants makes that a bit impractical.

And yes, any nappy advert works for me. My heart jumps every time.
