  1. In the UK it's a bit tricky around the issue of bag searches. Basically your bag is allowed to be searched but only with your permission. Employers would then put it in your work contract that bag searches are to be expected and refusal is grounds for termination. The grounds for when they can carry out searches are laid out in the contract. An ex used to work for a national hardware store and every employee in the store (including the managers if I recall correctly) were subject to random searches when they left the premises. The method they used was coloured pegs in a opaque bag. I can't remember that exact numbers here so we will say there were 10 pegs, 7 white, 2 blue and 1 red. The pegs went into the bag and shaken then the person leaving would reach in, mix the pegs up and pull one out and show it to the person holding the bag (normally one of the managers). If it was white then there was no search, if it was blue then it was a bag search and if it was red then there was a car search (I always remember that bit as I always found it funny that she could pull out the car search peg and not get searched at all because she didn't drive to work and a car search meant a car search only). Once the colour had been agreed the peg went back into the bag and the process started again for the next person. This way it was a random as possible and everyone had the same chance as pulling out a coloured peg as the next person. Staff could check the pegs before they pulled one out if they were so inclined (to make sure the right number of pegs were in there for example) You had days where no one was searched or had days when almost everyone got searched, which meant I never knew how long I would be waiting for her outside. I only bring this up because if (well when) you next talk to the higher ups about the bag searches and they say something like "well its policy to do random searches" you can ask them how the random person gets picked and should that random person be picked behind closed doors? And if you don't agree with his reply maybe suggest a similar method as I stated. Personally I'm against bag searches but I also understand why certain companies have to implement them so personally I wouldn't have anything against being subject to random bag searches at a company I worked for as long and the cards were on the table on how these searches were picked and that everyone was subject to them. Sorry about the shitty boss, we all get one at some point in life. Try not to let them grind you down.
  2. It all depends on the traffic and services you require. Shared hosting might be a way for most small websites but when you start to need SSL and more features you are going to have to look outside of shared hosting and move on to at least a VPS solution. For me I can not run my sites on shared hosting as they eat too much memory and cpu for most shared hosting and having my own pool of ip addresses mean I can provide SSL for the API's my app's use. Now these services do require a more cash, for example one of my App's needs it own server (well a VPS is good enough for it) for a number of reasons and that costs a month what a decent shared hosting plan would cost a year. But for me the sale of my app's and the ad's in the free version covers the cost of the server so for me their is no ad's on the web site.
  3. If you have a google account go here https://history.google.com/history/ and disable history (Though it will limit stuff Google Now will tell you, as it uses this to work out what your into). http://www.google.co...wsers.html#ieff this is a plugin for IE, Firefox, Chrome that will opt you out of Googles Advertising Cookie. You also have http://www.networkad...ng.org/choices/ that will allow you to opt out of a bucket load of tracking cookies, but as this is cookie based if you wipe your cookies you will have to opt-out again. Also for IE, Firefox, Chrome is DNT+ which will block the ID used on tracking services, social networks and ad networks for example DD has 1 tracking company and 2 Social Networks tracking it(through Google Analytics and Google + are the same company). If you use chrome I also highly recommend Adblock for Chrome as it not only blocks the ad's but it also removes the container that ad sits in so not only to you not see the ad's but the page looks cleaner too. But as a indie dev, I would ask that you please enable the ad's on sites that are not intrusive as hobby sites and indie sites as these guys pay the bills and keep the lights on using ad revenue. Hope it helps.
  4. Excusing my way more then normal connection I run on. Around here cable will give you a faster connection as the the copper line before it hits fiber is much much shorter. I'm lucky as I live over the road from my local exchange and on top of that my line was replaced not that long ago. But my exchange also services people 3 miles away. and they get a piss poor ADSL connection (For example I get a single 1 ADSL speed of 23.something meg at my house but someone being served by the same exchange about 2 miles away gets a piss poor 2meg) Now Cable does offer a better speed, but also has its draw backs. For example I can see all the packets being sent to your house if your connected to the same green box as my house is. So those plain text cookies which keep you logged in. Yup your sharing those with others, the thing is those around you prob are not interested in your packets so never even listen for them. Personally, I wont give Vermin Media my cash because well they broke their promises to me so many times I no longer trust them. And on the other hand. When I consider moving house on my list of things about the place is "What is the internet speed" Sadly we have fallen behind other places with internet speed. The roll out of FTTC and FTTP will help, sadly unless your in an area that the big ISP's deem worth its gonna take an age before we start getting gigabit speeds.
  5. I've never liked those flash based tests, I much prefer just downloading real files. [root@srv tmp]# wget www.3ftp.org/100MB_nonzero.bin -O /dev/null --2012-08-14 22:47:08-- http://www.3ftp.org/100MB_nonzero.bin Resolving www.3ftp.org... 5.9.39.72 Connecting to www.3ftp.org|5.9.39.72|:80... connected. 6. private browsing / incognito.... I dunno about your financial situation but with the uptake of laptops and now tablets, computers are going for cheap if you just want something to browse the web.
  7. When I flew back from the states last year they went though my checked in suitcase so i never saw them go though it (Had diapers and my bondage stuff in it) When I did a check of what I put in and what I had. They removed a battery. Left my AA's (never leave home with out them) but took out a 12v battery used in keyfob remotes... (I followed the rules that batterys should have there contacts taped up so they can't short)... At first I just thought that maybe it rolled of the table as they inspected it, but now I think its a cover up....
  8. Honestly.... Do you really need to make 5 threads all the same?
  9. I understand the initial peaceful protest, but this now seems to have exploded into looting for the heck of it :-(
  10. I'm ashamed to share a country with these asshats... :'( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gex_ya4-Oo
  11. I tend to cut them off. they can slip without them but not too much. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same issue. I'm on the border line between the two sizes too. The Fasteners pretty much overlap. If I was a bit bigger the Velcro would be so far over and wouldn't annoy me so much I guess.
  12. OK. Attends have these velcro like tabs on there slips that are designed to help keep the diaper in place, They grip on to the wrap around fasteners and if you spend you life standing up they are normally fine. If you don't know what I mean have a look Here. The problem I have is they can rub when I sit or sleep in them. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this issue with them and what you do to help stop them rubbing.
  13. And admins are going to have cookies set so nothing is going to look out of place during install and testing ;-) I still live in hope that one day the internet will grow up and stop silly things like this. Its never gonna happen, as one rouge dev grows up and starts behaving there are 2 ready to take their place but I can still live in hope :-p
  14. I'm no longer getting the redirection on any of my devices. Think you nailed it.
