If the friend had told a whole bunch of other people - family, friends, employer, etc - and OP was being ostracized and considered a freak by his social circle, everyone would be jumping on the girlfriend for betraying his trust. It could have just as easily gone sour. I still this the gf sucks for telling. It wasn't her secret to tell, no matter how well everything turned out.
