  1. Hey everyone, just a quick update since someone asked me if I was still planning on continuing this story.

    Tl:dr: YES. Don't worry, I'm slowly making progress 🙂

I'm currently halfway through writing Chapter 22, progress is just really slow because I have a lot going on (school, research, part time job, internships, going on exchange next term), etc and my school terms are usually really heavy so I don't get that much time to write. I'm going to finish writing part 2 or at least the next 7-8 chapters of part 2, before I release some more chapters, which I'm guessing won't be for another year or so based on my progress so far (long time to wait, I know!)

I have the whole story planned out at a high level (I finished the plan probably a year and a half ago), but it's taking more chapters than I originally planned to get through the content, so I might end up with anywhere from 40 to 60 chapters depending on what happens when I write the rest.

If it's more than 50 I'll probably split up Part 3 into 3. Endgame and 4. Checkmate, but we'll see. Might end up somewhere like 11/19/10 for 3 parts, 40 chapters or 11/20/14/5 for 4 parts, 50 chapters or 11/20/19/10 for 4 parts, 60 chapters. We'll see when we get there, this will probably take me the better part of the next couple years to finish.

Thanks for asking about the progress though, and I appreciate the support from all of you! 😀

  2. Foreword: This comment might come across as anti-Personalias, but it's not. It's an exercise of my freedom of speech and a response to the previous comment (by Personalias).

If the writer has to break the fourth wall to explain what they're writing about, then something has gone wrong for that reader.

I beg to differ. Different readers have different backgrounds and native languages and reading levels and tastes (like you mentioned). Fault isn't exclusively in the reader (or writer). Sometimes an author does need to break the fourth wall with some readers who might find it more difficult, in order for them to understand certain parts, even if the author is by no means obligated to do so.

What I don't understand is what you hope to gain or how you think you're helping anyone from voicing your opinion in this way?  I'm sharing my stories for free.

And they're sharing their thoughts for free. Free (as in libre) speech. Why? For a critique. I beg for critiques when I write. People pay editors for critiques. It helps improve your writing. Not accepting critiques cuts off many amazing ways to improve your writing.

So it's not like comments about the pacing not being to your liking or the content being cringe is going to be able to change it.  The future has already been written, as it were, so there's not much I can do at this stage to change it for you.

Why not? Have you seen Minority Report? Knowing the future enables changing it. Changing things based on user feedback is the best way to improve your product.

If you don't like my free story, what good are you doing by loudly announcing that you don't like it?

The announcement was one comment. I wouldn't call that loud.

What effect did you think your words would have other than possibly hurting my feelings?

I'm 99.9% sure they weren't trying to hurt your feelings.

tl;dr: laudatory comments can be encouraging, but critical ones are the most precious, because they help you improve your writing.

Maybe partly due to the fact that it was the the first DD story I think I ever read, so it was where I was first introduced to concepts like the Amazon society, subliminal messaging and the whole hypnosis thing... So at least in my mind it may be hard to top that one.

Tell me about it... I've been re-reading it lately as a bedtime story ?

I saw you recovered some of my older stuff, unfortunately I've found that I'm not very good with long stories, I tend to start writing without a clear idea of where the story is headed, so I immancably leave them not completed. I'm having a lot of fun with these shorts, simpler ideas, easy and quicker to put on paper.

Yep these shorts have been great, but it'd be even better if you picked up Day in the Life again at some point! Hadn't read a story of that style (which I particularly enjoy) in forever!

  5. Great short story!

After reading about Halloween in the diaper dimension, I wonder if any of the Amazons ever dress up as babies even for like Halloween costumes contests?

I seriously doubt it, given that nobody wants to be treated like a baby there. That'd be like someone dressed up as a terrorist or a dog (on all fours)...

    Whistles Innocently

Weeeeell since the cat's out of the bag, I'll confirm the rumors: Izzy will fly at some point, and the exact methods have already been hinted at somewhere in this thread. ?

Like, it could easily be turned into a nice subplot if Izzy enjoyed that kind of activity more regularly.

We may see Izzy in VR again, but the problem with writing these little excursions from the main storyline is I'm good at thinking up a rough plot for it, but bad at actually putting the little details into words. Part of the reason I stopped writing part 2 where I did was writer's block hit me pretty hard halfway through writing the laser tag bit (glad you liked it btw), and I really ran out of ideas on what to have them do in the game/how to further develop the game help mode details. I might at some point extend the last chapter a bit to finish up the game, but we'll have to see if I'm up for it. If not, well Izzy likes to use her Cyrano quite a lot, and you can use your imagination about any VR adventures she might try!

Someone compared her to Stacy from Exchanged, and while your response to that made perfectly sense, now I can't unsee the similarities ?

One of the reasons I love Sofia's writing so much is I share a LOT of personality with Stacy, down to liking dolphins and being a talented little hacker. Basically when I set out to write this story, I decided to put the rest of what Stacy isn't and what I am into Izzy and Mike. Many of the scenes I write about in this story were drawn from my personal experiences. Some may only be inspiration but some are/will be near-verbatim retellings of something that I actually went through at some point. So the flip side of this is if there's uncanny similarity between Izzy and Stacy in some aspect, it might just be that I'm like that too ?

I like how Mike and Izzy's relationships develops, it's wonderful how caring and respectful he is at the same time - Izzy really landed the best of both worlds!

It's actually quite a fine line to balance.

But how negligent of Mike to omit exit statements in his plant code!

I mean, whatever execution environment the plant was running in didn't respond to a SIGINT, so only 50% Mike's fault ?

I already said it, but thanks for this amazing story! Also good luck with your math courses, and take as much time as you need to write the next chapters! Quality takes time :) ❤️

Thank you! Term is almost over, I'll have plenty of time to write over my extended winter break ?

Omggg you really went to town on the tech in this part! Love it!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)

(though I'll admit I don't really understand the chessplay nor the code since I'm only familiar with a bit of C++ ??)

Honestly I don't expect anyone to fully understand all parts of the story, it spans too many vastly different interests lol.

One thing I always wonder about with the DD, is how "normal people" can afford these insane amounts of technology everywhere - the stuff must have gotten dirt cheap... Though I also haven't yet read a DD story where the Bigs didn't make quite decent money ?

Think about our world... just the other day I pulled a 4TB hard drive from one of the servers I maintain (it was dead and I have a bunch of extras so it wasn't worth fixing) and brought it to my Firmware course so the prof could disassemble it (thereby permanently decommissioning it) to do an object lesson with the class. 10 years ago a 4TB hard drive would have cost bonkers for a student to just bring to class!

That Robin Hood VR fantasy was a very nice addition, too, changing things up a bit!

One of my beta-testers thought that was jarring and detracted from the main plot, glad you liked it!

But this Little racism in the chess club really makes me angry, I have the feeling Izzy is gonna make a few enemies when all the Amazons find out they're no match to her intellectually ...

Izzy isn't superhumanly smart. She's good at playing chess though :))

Your inclusion of the actual screenshotted code as well as the overall detail you went into suggested something like that ?

Fun fact, I didn't want to screenshot the code. I wrote it all in Google Docs (for portability) with nice formatting (I used an inline 1x1 table with black background and green font for the code), but then I realized that basically every site I post to (DD, Wattpad, ABDLSF, AO3) don't allow HTML formatting on that level, so I went with a screenshot of my WYSIWYG original draft for best presentation.

IMO things are better the nerdier they get, but I guess usually it's all about striking that balance to make stuff appealing to as large of an audience as possible.

I mainly did it so that you can easily skip over sections of the story that are too tech-heavy without missing out on plot. If I made the implementation details of a LALR parser or a TCP/IP stack or a NEAT network central to the plot I'd bore half my readers to death ?

Oh okay, good, that means I haven't gone through all the diaper stories yet. I'll be sure to check it out!

There's a lot of good DD stories!
