How Should I Approach This?

I play a game called World of Warcraft. I'm sure most of you know of it or even play it. Anyways, I have a guildmate that I'm beginning to think might be AB/DL. I say this because of the many, many diaper remarks he makes in guild.

Types of things he has said:

"Real gamers wear diapers, so they don't need restroom breaks."

When someone else brought up the topic of Boxers vs Briefs, his response was "Depends".

After someone told a funny joke in ventrilo, he said "I just pissed myself. brb, I need a new diaper."

There have been many more similar quotes, but I can't remember them at the moment. He said them all in jest, but usually when someone sticks to a theme, it has some roots. So, my question is...

How can I approach this person and find out if he's AB/DL without outing myself on the chance it really is just joking around?

He may have said them in jest but I would bet that there is a lot more to it than that! That is way too many diaper comments to be just "off handed". Next time he makes those comments you might want to comment yourself that you've read that lots of gamers actually do wear diapers when playing, including people in casinos who play slot machines so they don't have to get up if they suddenly have to go real bad. You might even say you've thought about doing that yourself once or twice when you were going to be gaming for a long session. See what his reaction is.

Sure does sound like he wants to be pushed on this. Don't do it in front of anyone, but I pretty much agree with rusty pins. You might just ask, "So have you really thought about wearing diapers? Did you ever really do it?"..."You keep talking about diapers...are you serious about it?" Keep your voice in a tone that suggests you are accepting of whatever he's into...

On the other hand, is there any conceivable way he has found out about you and is making the comments to lure you in to fessin' up? Think long and hard before approaching him...unless you don't mind being outted by him. It may be remote, but be careful...if you are positive its OK, then go ahead and press him on his comments...If he's into diapers and you approach in an open way, it seems like he'll open up.

Dude, its WOW, are you ever gonna see/meet this individual IRL? Is there any way he can intrude into your personal life and 'out' you? If not, I say go for it, it's just the internet!

WoW is a lot less like the internet than a message board though. In WoW you often spend most of your time as one character, and most of the people you know also know about what other characters you play. Furthermore, people on servers, at least in the upper echelon of guilds, tend to be very close-knit to where it becomes more like high school than a game (socially at least). Point being, when you do something that would generate interest, everyone else hears about it and it does stick to your name. So while there wouldn't be any RL repercussions of him approaching this, he would most definitely get out casted and labeled in the game, to the point of probably having to switch servers/quit.

Anyway, I think the main thing to look at is how often does he make these remarks? If its daily or multiple times a week then there's probably something going on. If its just an occasional thing, however, then he probably just thinks diapers are really funny (which is normal. Remember how people reacted to the whole astronaut debacle a few months back?).
