Catheter Question

Recommended Posts

I am going to use a foley catheter, I've gone through the process many times before without any change in urinary frequency, I wonder how long does it take to become bladder incontinent from a foley catheter? This isn't a could/should question, but rather a matter of fact, no life philosophies please.

Also, are there plugs that allow urine to dribble out in a filtered way? Like the way water passes through a coffee filter?

Thank you

Shinjie, I am responding to your question about how long it will take for you to achieve bladder incontinence without philosophical points but rather a medical alert. I am a newly graduated nurse with quality training behind me but little work experience. I want to encourage you to rethink your position on attaining incontinence with the long term use of a catheter. I have no information on how long it will take you to achieve your goal but an educated guess rings in at about 6 to 9 months. Of course within 48 hours bacteria begin to colonize the catheter and move on within 72 hours to the bladder and within a couple of weeks should have fully invaded the entire renal system. Your plan is risky and may bring you intense grief and pain so I really hope you think it through after accessing current research. There are ways to accomplish your goal of incontinence without the self harm element. They do take time but are safe and not debilitating. Take care of yourself, Thera

If you wanna harm the only thing that identifies you as a man, go the cath route. Personally, having had one done before, I wouldn't inflict it upon anyone I know and care about, and certainly not upon my own body again. It is the most excruciating pain I've ever known.

And trust the nurse --the bacteria buildup can get bad. And if left unchecked, can and will consume your organs, thrusting you into what's known as renal failure. Your kidneys and liver will cease to function properly and you will experience untold amounts of pain and medical bills --all because you wanted to become incon.

My suggestion will probably be backed by everyone else here --

Wear diapers 24/7 and don't hold it back. That's how I achieved a fair degree of incontinence, and there's room for improvement. I haven't harmed my body in any way by doing so, and best of all, I didn't have to put a tube and balloon into my peepee.

will the same thing happen with the use of an external cath like the mentor Freedom cath? and a leg bag? They are a condom with glue on them but still the end {blub} has soem usrine in it and so does the tube that goes to the bag. the One way{fluter vavle is only on the bag end inside}

So you still have some urine in the blub and tube.

I have been using them since I have a bad diaper rash and wanted time away from wet diapers infact just started this morn.

The instuction say to just empty the bag as needed! And once a day{every 24 hours} clean Rinse with warm water and then cool water and reuse bag! But to replace with a new bag after 30-60 days.

sorry for the high jacked post!

I was realy liking the no diaper thing for a change{sorry diaper lovers i like my soft new diapers! But the old wet ones and changing get old fast.

Yea I need Diapers or something so I don't wet my pants. You may wan't to rethink needing the 100% of the time You may want to just wear when you want to instead of need to......

Dodgedart, Condom drainage is safer than the more invasive procedure if the manufacturer directions are followed. There is still a possibility of bacterial colonization that could become invasive and trigger problems. I would recommend that you contact the manufacturer for their recommendations and also check out the internet for current reasearch results. Good hunting, Thera

There is a guy who posted in the incontenence forum claiming to have atropied his bladder and sphinkter muscles. He might never fully trained again.

I don't how many times I've mentioned my difficulties with cathing... but I thought I'd just relay my most current circumstances for what it's worth...

I have been battling a major bacterial infection that just won't go away and is now threatening to waste the only kidney I have left. The short of it is: fevers, chills, incredible pain, bloody urine and I still have to cath to drain. I've been injecting myself three times a day with a megawat antibiotic and three days ago sat through two hours of infusion therapy (think dialysis without the filtering) with tubes running directly into my kidney from my side, and an overnight stay in the hospital. I'm seeing an infectious disease specialist tomorrow. All because I cath... and not from choice!

So... go ahead and cath away my friends and enjoy the pleasures of UTIs!
