Everyone should be aware that there is NO PM-ing people in Chat without having first asked for and received permission to do so 

in Main Chat first. The only exception is when someone says "PM open". Then anyone can PM that person at will.

This is one of our "Golden Rules" here, and I just want everyone to be clearly aware of it.

We take this subject seriously. People have been known to get banned for life from this site for breaking this rule.

Please be aware of this. Thank You.

That rule used to be listed at the top of the chat page. It was lost while fixing one of the more recent configuration problems.

It might be helpful for new members if that notification was replaced.

You can kind of sympathize with new people making that mistake, when the rule isn't posted front and center.

The site owner and I are very aware of this, but the problem is that it would require some serious software do-overs to improve it.

In the meantime we'll have to keep struggling along

And the rule IS posted....just not as clearly and obviously as any of us would like
