Sciatica

Recommended Posts

I just got diagnosed as having sciatica.  The pain is in my back, hip and upper leg.  I have also found myself running to the bathroom a ton and cannot sleep at night because I have to keep peeing.  I have also had a few episodes of leaking and not knowing.  This has been hard as I enjoy wearing diapers for fun, but now I have a real need.  I am using a pull up for daytime and a diaper for nights.  Has anybody else had incontinence due to sciatica?   How long will this last.  The only good part is that my wife, who doesn’t like me wearing, is allowing it and feels for me.  I guess careful for what you wish for.

Sciatica is normally the result of something wrong. Like muscle strains, lower back or spinal injuries or degenerative issues. Lower back and spinal problems can have an effect on the bladder.

For me, I have past low back injury with nerve damage from waist down. I have sciatica on both sides but don't feel it much on the left side. I don't get much warning for my bladder and have spasms. Therapy and stretches help. I wear cargo pants so I don't have anything in my back pockets that can irritate the sciatica. Ibuprofen or steroids can help.

Did you tell the doctor about bladder issues?  If it's not related to an injury it needs to get checked either way.

One addition,  I didn't admit to bladder issues after my back injury. When my back and legs got worse I think they noticed my urgent rush to the bathroom in therapy. Five months later with no improvement they did a nerve test. I didn't want to tell them so I wouldn't lose my job. It ended when I left the nerve test in a diaper. Had I told them maybe things might have improved as it took another seven years to walk this well. Its been fourteen years and still have impairments, pull-ups and diapers.

I mentioned that I had frequent urination to the nurse practitioner that I saw.  She didn’t say anything about it.  I feel a constant urge to pee and then it starts as a dribble.  I dribble in the pull up after I’m done.  I also started to wear a diaper at night so I can sleep throughout the night without waking up every hour to pee.  That was killing me.  I don’t what type of doctor to see next.  I tried a chiropractor but hate being sold all the time.  The nurse practitioner said I should see a physical medicine doctor.  I was thinking more like a neurologist.  Any insight on who I should see.  I rather not start with a urologist if I don’t have to.

With Sciatica this is a system a secondary condition to main injury to a back injury,  Depending were the Sciatica effects you body it could be a l1-s2 disk bulge.  when the back starters really hurting then it herniates.  Also read up on "CES" Cauda Equina Syndrome this out to scar the scrap out of you i have this i was able to walk a eventually still have butt pain and back pain loos of bladder and bowels was forever due to  nerve damage though

The thought of CES definitely scares me.  I have not had any bowel issues except some minor constipation.  The real issue is feeling the need to pee, weak stream and then the dribbling.  It is really embarrassing and I am sort of embarrassed to discuss this with a doctor.  I am trying to find a doctor that I don’t know, as I think it will be easier to discuss.

Follow up…I saw a physical medicine doctor today.  She diagnosed me with a herniated L4.  Scheduled an MRI for Wednesday to see how bad it is.  I was diagnosed about 10 yrs ago with spinal stenosis.  Hopefully that didn’t get too bad.  She was concerned with the incontinence I just got.  She said if I lose all control to get to a hospital immediately as that is a serious condition.  Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point.  I can handle a little dripping.
