Messages/profile?

Hi, new to the site and having some trouble. How do you view your profile and messages? I clicked the three lines at the top right of the page, but it just dims my screen, like a menu is going to pop up but never does.

You should see your user name/icon in the upper right corner, next to it should be a down arrow. Clicking there should bring a drop down menu with profile on it.
