Guest
Just a shout out to all of our friends who hail from the Alberta region of Canada - we well and stay safe. Link to comment
BBoy
Canadians across the country are speechless. This fire started quickly and without much warning for the residents of Fort McMurray. They had a very dry winter and spring, the fires across the province of Alberta are huge. But so close to a major city that has wiped out so many homes. City of 60,000-80,000, in one subdivision 90% of homes destroyed. Across the entire city approx 30-40% of the homes destroyed. Total damage estimated at 9 billion dollars. Link to comment
Bettypooh
It's a terrible thing, the scale of which is tremendous. It's far beyond human ability to handle leaving escape as the only option. So sad to have so many people losing so much If there is anything good in this it is the way Canadians have come together to help one another, opening their homes to the displaced and pouring in whatever money they have to help people they have never seen and never will. It's a more personal response than what we do here and that touches my heart deeply. This much destruction and no deaths is beyond amazing. My thoughts and prayers are with you Canada. Guest
Betty, even though I'm not in Canada, your genuine sentiment moved me to tears. Link to comment
BBoy
Its not just regular Canadians that are stepping up. Newly arrived Syrian refugees who have virtually nothing are giving what resources they have to help others. They very recently were displaced and had nothing, are now giving to help the ones who helped them. Truly a wonderful and hart warming to see all Canadians both old and new helping each other. http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/we-understand-what-theyre-feeling-syrian-refugees-in-calgary-step-up-to-help-fort-mcmurray-fire-evacuees Link to comment
