Jacey hadn't spoken a word to the social worker since meeting her. She didn't know anybody and didn't like being jostled around from place to place. She sighed and grabbed her backpack and suitcase. She had just dumped everything she could into her suitcase and her backpack had her favorite toys and blanket and the book her mother read her every night.

Mike and Amy were sitting on the sofa as Ralph opened the door and saw the social worker escort his niece into the house.

"So, this is my little niece.

Jacey barely looked up from the floor when her uncle greeted her. She looked around and found the only available spot by Mike. She signed a little and climbed on the couch, but scooted as far from him as possible. She didn't know him at all and didn't want to right now.

Amy elbowed her brother's arm and hissed a whisper. "You can't just say her parents are dead!" She said rolling her eyes. "Besides she probably doesn't wanna be by you cuz you smell." She teased her younger brother as usual.

Mike patted her head and continue to talk to the social worker.

"Then how am I supposed to get her ready for school?

Ralph realized she was dancing around like she was about to wet, but before he said anything about it, Mike reacted.

Mike jumped out of his seat and ran over reaching for her hand.

Jacey whimpered a bit, the most noise she'd made since her parents died. She pushed her dress into her crotch though, trying to keep from wetting her pants. She was wearing something nice so she'd be presentable, and she didn't wanna ruin her clothes.

Mike went over to her as she sat on the toilet and he smiled.

"Honey, you can't wear these clothes," he told her.

Jacey started to cry when the boy started undressing her. She didn't like this at all! The only boy ever allowed to undress her was her daddy! She covered her eyes and silently cried while she got undressed. She was scared. Other

Amy handed her dad the clothes, figuring an adult would be the best one to change her. She didn't want to make Jacey feel even more scared than she already was.

"I've never dealt with little kids before! Except for you!" Amy said rolling her eyes. "I didn't know she had to go! And neither did dad!" She cringed when the clothes were shoved into her face. "MIKE!" She shouted. "You're disgusting!"

Jacey nodded and hung her head, mortified that she wet herself. She pushed her braids out of her face and when her uncle mentioned he was glad to have her, she gave him a small smile, it was small, but sincere. She nodded and followed his directions. She climbed into the bathtub and located a clean washcloth and the soap.

(I know it was.)

Amy rolled her eyes and tossed the clothes into the laundry. She felt bad for her cousin, mostly because she wouldn't want some strange guy undressing her out of nowhere.

After several minutes talking, Mike said he understood where Ralph was coming from and Ralph left him to think about his actions while he went to check on his niece.

Once she got the clothes in the laundry Amy went upstairs to change her shirt. "This better not stay smelly." She mumbled under breath. She changed into a wide strapped tank top and put on some shorts instead of her skirt. She'd go outside and play basketball for a while. She tossed the shirt into the laundry room before heading out back with her basketball.

Jacey let her uncle fix her overalls and she smiled a bit to say thanks. She wasn't a fan of sports really, aside from dance and golf, but she didn't like things like basketball.
