Find the word (very hard)

How about something a bit more difficult? I am looking for a five-letter word and each of the questions will lead you to a name from one of the stories that have been active/posted on since October 1st. To make things a little bit harder, in three cases it's the name of the author that matters, not the character. Now, once you've identified the characters/authors, take the first letter of their names and twist around and you get something essential to every Mommy and/or Daddy. Good luck!

Oh it's not that hard if people collaborate a bit Maxxy. I'm positive you recognise at least one if not several of the characters referred to and if you put this up, someone else then recognises another and before you know it, we're all done.
