Diaper sizing help

Recommended Posts

I have a friend whos thinking about wearing diapers for convenience at concerts and movies. She can wear (all US sizes) Girls 14 or 16 and Young Juniors 9/10. Would tena stretch medium/regular fit her? if not give some input. We'd prefer Abena or Tena brand pull-on or brief style

They may be wearable but I think a small would fit better. This is considering the numbers you gave as her ideal fit, not something she can squeeze into if she wants to. The break-point between small and meduim seems to be around a womens size 6 in lingerie which is sized more consistently than outer clothing. It's more about fit than size though, so there are no 'rules' here, only suggestions on what to try first ;)

This has come up in a number of posts already.

In general, diapers sizes are inconsistent, even the charts manufacturers post can be off by even 3-4 inches. Also don't forget a pant size is not the same as a measured waist size. Add in that everyone body is shaped differently and ever diaper is shaped differently and even a diaper that fits may not fit snugly enough to prevent leaks.

A good rule of thumb though, is that a diaper should have at least a couple of inches overlap on the sides, and should extend up to your belly button. It should also be snug all the way around your legs.

Too small of a diaper will have too tight of a fit around the legs, will have a visible gap on the sides and/or be tough to tape on, and will not have enough padding to absorb a decent amount (especially for someone that isn't incontinent and will probably "flood" their diaper all at once).

Too big of a diaper won't provide a snug enough fit and will leak long before it reaches capacity. The tapes on the side will also end up taping to the front/center of the diaper, which ends up leaving too loose of a fit around the legs. It will also clump and sag very quickly. Not to mention it Just won't feel right either.
