I'm not condoning what kitt said to the guy... kitt was being purposefully provocative, looking for a response-- and he got one.

What I'm saying is, as soon as the guy knew he was talking to a 15 year old, he should have gotten out-- or at the VERY least, he should have been VERY careful about where the subject matter was going. He didn't; he let Kitt start going on about being raped by his dad, and then instead of saying "That's too bad, I'm sorry, I hope you get out of that terrible situation", the guy actually wanted to see pics... man, fucking no way!

I don’t know how big your company is but Administrators in companies not only can see what your doing in real time, but there are log files with very detailed information as to every site you’ve went to and what you’ve clicked on depending on how the admin sets up the sever in the organization. Some admins even log what employee’s type on the key boards, not common but it happens.

Dude, even if you clear the history on that computer at work, the server in the company probably has log files of everything you’ve done.

That could destroy your work history when you’re out looking for a new job.

I see way too much gray area in this one. An adult talking to someone under 18 is not wrong. An adult trying to get someone underage into a sexual relationship, sharing pornographic images, etc. is.

You more or less had to goad him into saying yes to seeing pictures. From his earlier reactions he may well have wanted proof to alert authorities. I do not think this is likely, but it is the benefit of the doubt. I would see the 54 year old squarely in the wrong if the conversation had gone something like:

Once again, I do think this guy sounds creepy. My question is, given a normal situation, is he just a pervert that would sit back and think about it, maybe look for some illegal porn (but not pay for it, make it, or provide it)? Without first being approached, is he really the type that would be a "predator"?

Yeah, the guy is sick, but because in this situation you approached him, not visa-versa, it is hard to tell exactly how sick this guy is. Pervert or sexual predator? Can't really answer that from this.

I've been keeping track of this post to hear how others would respond. I clearly saw fault on both sides. My initial impression was that the guy might have wanted some proof to alert authorities, but after reading it again, and again, I don't really know. Three things stood out for me that I find troubling for the 54 year old:

First:

Asking the 15 year old "is it still ok to chat?" is not a question an adult should be asking a 15 year old. It's not illegal, but it's just not appropriate in my view.

Totally inappropriate question. At this point, I think if his true intension were to help the kid, he should have said something like "I want to help you" or "can I tell the police" or words to that affect. I don't know, something other than what he said though.

Now, what I find interesting is that you clearly state that YOU WANT TO GET RID OF HIM so you tell him you're 15, but then you say "if u want to" after you said "nope". According to your opening statement, you said "He then still wants to talk". True, he does, he asked you that, but you told him no, then YOU invited him to continue in your next reply. After his diaper chat, it is clear to me that you took him exactly where you wanted him to go. You controlled the conversation at this point and manipulated where the conversation went.

My Summary:

- Your forum title was very misleading as was your opening statement.

- You can't initiate topics of perversion and then expect others to agree that the listener is automatically guilty for listening.

- You both have issues: Him for wanting to continue to chat with you after you identify to him that you are a minor and you for assuming he was a pervert or pedophile after you disclose to him that you are a minor and he still wants to talk.

- This is a poor example of "people like this give us a bad name".
