Hey everyone so recently I've been dealing with a lot of medical issues that has left me double incontinent. Im getting tired of always having to run down stairs in my house to the basement and have to throw my used diapers in the big trash can, and I was wondering if anyone here uses a diaper Pail for disposing of their diapers . I use attends briefs waistband style during the daytime and tranquility ATN during the night. somedays I go through 10 diapers and some days i go through 3 maybe or 2 even. I've been looking around and was looking at the Dekor XL Diaper Pail. If you have one I would love to here your thoughts as to what you think and im mostly interesting in the capacity that it can hold of adult diapers. and for those of you that may use a different diaper pail system please let me know yoru thoughts on which diaper pail works for you thanks Sean.

I have heard this can accommodate adult sized diapers, but I ran across a woman in the diaper isle of Walmart, that said a lidded trash can provides nearly the same odor protection as a diaper disposal system. Take it with a grain of salt if you must, but she appeared to be a mother who knew what she was talking about from experience. so instead I just use a foot pedal trashcan from walmart with scented trash bags to handle my diapers.

Over the years I have owned many kinds of diaper pails. For real life I keep using ordinary lidded trash containers. Those were what I used in my university dorms. My dorm mate (who was also incontinent) and I would take the contents of the trash container down to the outside trash bin every evening before it got too dark. Odors from our wet diapers were not a problem.

After university when I was living in small apartments I used a plain kitchen trash container. I also emptied that every morning before going to work.

Once I married Don we lived in his house. That was when I bought my first infant diaper pail. Those are fun and cute, but not necessary.

When we moved to our current home in January 1997, we installed a trash compactor next to the sink in our master bedroom. All my used disposables go into that compactor. For over 13 years this system has worked very well for us.

I use a Diaper Genie. The one where they enlarged the opening. I don't believe they make the small mouthed ones anymore, I believe it was a redesign. Anyway, I would doubt it would take anything more than my smalls in a adult size due to the openings limit. That being said it works okay for what it is. Kinda a novelty, but none the less it does work it held about 10-12. I would assume that you are at least a medium as you said Attends with a waist band (They don't make Attends in a small with that) so that would probably be out.

I would probably go with what others said and get a regular Diaper pail the ones with a flip top and have a little spot for a deodorizer in the lid. It's gonna be a lot cheaper in the long run. The one you outline is pretty nice and has some nice features. It says it holds up to 40 baby diapers, so you can pretty much reduce that to a third as much if not a quarter and go for around 10-15 max in adult sizes. Depending on the cost for refills and the unit price I think I would just visit Wal-Mart and see what they have available.

Angela..I'm getting this funny picture in my mind of the Compactor Squishing those attends and size fours down and then.....BOOOMMMMM...SAP and diaper gunk all over the inside. I know they make special bags for them..but I just think it's funny you compact the diapers..I bet those bags get heavy!! :whistling:

Repaid1,

Why do you think I am married to Daddy Don? He has no problem carrying out such trash.

Seriously, the compactor under the nursery sink is next to the outside wall. It has a vent as would be used on a dryer, so any odors dissipate outside.

It sounds pretty cool. My grandmother had one when they first became available. I can't imagine putting diapers in one. As hers would crush cans, I can only imagine that when the Ram came down, the diapers would explode and that stuff gets all over it or something. Perhaps your design is better than what I'm thinking but you get a plus for reducing the environmental impact. Then again, is it really a good Idea to compress all that stuff so it can't degrade? Heck what do I know. Just your the first I've heard of it used for that purpose. Learn something new every day :P... Hope your having a great day and stuff. Seems as though your on a Vacation or something, you've been on here a bit more lately..and that's always nice!

I used a Diaper Genie for a while, and I wear Large. As for diapers that fit in it all store quality brands fit into it, and Secure plus, didnt try the X-Plus. The old Eurobriefs(AKA ID-Slip) didnt fit either. I dont think Attends would have a problem fitting into the opening of a Diaper Genie.

My sisters Penny and Missy both wear Attends Breathable Medium and poly-plastic medium briefs. Both use Diaper Genie without any problem.

Well I can definately answer your question as I just bought one about two months ago. I bought it from drugstore.com and I just recently noticed they are onsale as well. It was cheapest there out of eveywhere I looked but most were within a few bucks of each other. It's still pretty expensive at about $80 for a garbage can with a lid and a unique bagging system. Honestly, don't know if I'd buy one again thought. The reason being as others have stated, you can buy a flip lid garbage can for a fraction of the price and will contain the odors about just as well. If you're using as many diapers as you say, you're probably going to be emptying anything often unless you use a huge garbage barrel. With th dekor xl I usually fit about 12 or so wet only diapers in there before I empty it. I usually only use for night but some during the day so I go about a week. It honestly doesn't contain the odors completely and just walking by it you can tell there's wet diapers in it from the smell. I put an air freshener by it to help but as far as fully containing the odors, it doesn't happen. When you toss one in the flaps open for that brief second and a plume of odor escapes there too so you're not fully getting away from eliminating odors. That' why I say a flip lid garbage can (a good sealing one) would have about the same effect and is much easier to pull of as a garbage can and not a diaper pail since it is what it is. The dekor xl is pretty big, about knee high and a foot across and a little shorter in depth. It's obvious what it is. One thing to note though, you can convert the dekor xl into a normal flip lid garbage by snapping out the diaper flapper slot in the top so it's open to the bag once the lid is flipped open with the foot pedal.

On a positive side though, it does hold quite a bit, contains some odors and is easy to change out the diaper bags and start over with a new one. Pretty simple operation.

I think normal flip lid garbage can that seals well when closed, along with scented trash bags(yes they have those now!!) is just as good an option if not better. The only real way to eliminate all odors in my book is get the above or dekor xl and put each used diaper in a individual bag tied shut or better yet a scented bag actually designed for diapers like the diaper duck system. Even though the bags say they're for baby diapers, I've fit large, bulky used diapers in them no problem. So bag each diaper and throw them in the trash and empty the trash every couple days.

If you have any further questions just ask and I'll try to answer.

I too have thought about buying the Dekor or similar diaper disposal system but after reading reviews like on here I just use a medium size trash can that has a lid, it actually fits under the sink in our master bathroom. I do put the wet diapers in individual scented bags which does reduce ordor but doesn't eliminate it completely.

Like some of the others, I've never seen the point in specialised diaper pails - a regular trash can w/lid, some of those 'Plink' deodoriser balls and some scented trash bags will be all you need. Much cheaper.

To me, things like diaper genies serve no purpose other than to lock you into using special (more expensive) supplies...

I use a turquoise 5 gallon paint bucket with a white snap-on lid B) Both came from WalMart's paint department for under $15 ;) The regular lids are too tough to open when you seal them and this one is a lot easier :) In the bottom are the contents of a box of baking soda with another box with just the lid slightly open- that sits on top of the contents and becomes the loose stuff in the bottom every 7-10 days as needed to keep odors down  I dump all but the box on top into a kitchen bag for trash pick-up day  There is always going to be some odor when you open a diaper pail but the less you move the enclosed air around the less it smells :angel_not:
