singner
Vivendi, Activision and LucasArts have just left ESA! What does that mean for the geekhood? It means that many of their games have finally lost their protection and become "Abandonware" I.E. legally free to download! Huzzah! Bring on the Monkey Island! Now, if only Sierra would do the same. belinda_sue_fox
Lol Lol Monkey island has been a legal free downlaod for ages. But seriously, you need to read more on ESA and copyrights etc. Link to comment
singner
It's true, not all of those company's titles will lose their protection, but many of the older ones will not be renewed. We're not talking new stuff, but the old things which were locked away in vaults, not to be seen on shelves again. It's good news for the historical gaming preservation community. Link to comment

I've seen massive torrents listed at Pirate Bay for complete libraries of Lucas Arts and Infocom games. Some of the new games these days are too much for my computers (I can't afford to upgrade yet, so my machines are at least 3 years old or more) so I still enjoy playing a lot of the older games... Long Live Abandonware! (BTW, there's even webrings devoted to Abandonware, and some nice big websites, like Home of the Underdogs...) Link to comment

But I second the cheer - Long Live Abandonware! Link to comment
