We as Americans let this happen. Our schools have been dumbed down. Our children are lazy. In Florida, one can pass through grammar school with a grade of 61 percent. My children know more about Martin Luthur King than Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. What is wrong with this picture?

America's big problem is education. The objective of the American public school system is to keep students ignorant enough to be manipulated. The is clear when we see a Communist (Obama) about to become president. Lets do it for the teachers union. To hell with the kids.

My children think wiping off the dining table is a day's work. It takes away from computer and game time.

We need to bring America back and it is not going to happen as long as our culture rewards irresponsibility.

We call using some whup-ass on our kids "abuse". Belt welts across an ass never hurt anyone. We are raising multiple generations of pussy idiots.

I see histroy ready to repeat itself. I see young voters voting with emotion as opposed to common sense. These young people are not old enough to remember what happened when we did something stupid by electing Jimmy Carter.

I remember a lot of bad things. I remember participating in bomb drills in early childhood. I remember getting out of school when JFK was shot. When I was young, I remember the prime interest rate at 21 percent. I remember double digit unemployment. I remember the fake oil shortages.

I am an old and opinionated as hell but I can afford to be. I am right. I have been there and done that.

Redneck...did you watch the vid? It wasn't negative (as I perceive your post) but rather asking many hard questions, including whether or not our children are learning what they'll need to know to survive in tomorrow's job market. I didn't see anything about communism or "pussy idiots".

In some ways, I (hate to say I) agree with you. I've been working for a living since shortly after high school, after I tested out as a sophomore. I had to help my disabled mother pay her rent, often to my own detriment, while my peers were wondering why they were failing English class when they couldn't put together a comprehensible sentence. I may have problems socializing, but the current emphasis on 'self esteem' over discipline has only taught kids it feels good to misbehave and its okay.

An interesting viewpoint in The Manipulative Child which seems to apply: Self esteem comes from succeeding on one's own. Real life doesn't change the rules because you can't (or won't) measure up. Modern parenting, and the current educational system in the US, suggests that one should lower the bar if the child can't reach, rather than teaching problem solving and perseverance.

You guys seem to have the same problems we have over here. Our schools have been dumbed down, so the government can boast of improved pass rates. In actual fact, kids in the UK today are not receiving the rounded education I did. They are great with computers, but they don't seem to know much else. Many of them also seem to lack the most basic social skills, probably because they don't socialise as we did.

I recently had a 16 year old working with me for work experience. He didn't know the basics of writing a formal letter, thought it was okay to use text speak in an email to another company and couldn't add up without a calculator. This isn't a kid, this is someone about to leave school. He thought it was a big joke, but when he is 30 he will be sweeping the streets or serving in KFC.

Another thing that angers me is the backlash against our history. There is a consensus among the powers that be, that Britain should be ashamed of it's history and because of this it is whitewashed in our schools. I admit that there are many things that we should be ashamed of, the slave trade for instance. The same applies to you guys, wiping out your native culture is one that springs to mind. But we can't not teach our kids this stuff, because we find it unsavory. Even worse, in some schools they don't teach it at all (I have a teacher friend who told me that they only teach history from 1900 on, because the things that happened before that are so long ago that they have no importance anymore.....crap!!!). We have a generation that know nothing of British or World History.

I don't believe that the kids today are any more troublesome or any more stupid than we were, but the system is letting them down. Kids in Britain today run riot and you are not 'allowed' to say a word to them. If I or my brothers had used bad language to my parents, grandparents, the police or any other adult, we would have been whacked by my Dad........no questions asked! I'm not saying that is how it should be, but it taught us about respect.

Well, I'm old and opinionated too...but at the opposite end of the spectrum as you. I've been lots of places and done a lot of that.

You say your own kids are lazy...oh, they caught that from someone else? They aren't at all your responsibility? I taught for 30 years and struggled with your kids...some did well because of you and others did well in spite of you...and some were just plain lazy and had no values or ethics...many from 'redneck' parents as well as those damned liberals!

Speaking of which, "I see histroy ready to repeat itself. I see young voters voting with emotion as opposed to common sense. What happened when we did something stupid by electing' George Bush. Sure - illegal invasion of other nations for trumped up reasons never hurt anyone - oh, well maybe the thousands of casualties...and who cares that Bush has run up a bigger national debt than ALL previous presidents put together.

I can hear you now...see, my opinions don't count because you're right and I'm wrong. I bet you're strong on "America - love it or leave it" but at the same time, you've gone on and on about how terrible it is...to which country will you be going?

No, I don't think education is the big problem. I think GREED, ARROGANCE, INTOLERANCE, EGOTISM - all of which you've clearly expressed in your writing - is our big problem. Politics of fear, divisiveness and polarization spawned in part by both parties are a big problem. Bush, for being the 'uniter' or whatever he called himself, has been a trendsetter in this respect, however.

We are a great country in which many different opinions can be expressed - it's a shame that so many people, like you, want to shout theirs loud enough to silence everyone else. Have you ever thought of having a conversation???

McCarthy was right. He should not be deamonized.

Some people here worship Communist. Nelson Mandella and Martin Luthur King were both Communist. We have the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) who was founded by Rodger Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin's prime objective was to make America a Communist country.

Let me make one thing clear. In no way an I bashing the acomplishments of King. The color of one's skin should not make anyone a second class citizen. Pushing blacks to the back of a bus was wrong. Jim Crow laws were wrong. Sub-standard education was wrong.

I have no use for the Karl Marx utopia. The first attempt of Communism was in America. The first failure of Communism was in America. Historty: Captain Miles Standish Plymouth Mass 1621

We now have Obama, Clinton and Nader preaching right from the "Comminist Manifesto"!

I agree with you on small minded people. People are more concerned about television entertainment instead of the news. The small minded people just buy in to the BS that the mainstreme media feeds them.

Communism is a threat. Taking property from producers and rendering it to parasites is a problem. The prime objective, of the American Democratic party is to get as many people dependant on the government for their existence. In reality, government is not the solution. Government is the problem.

Obama Communist?

I'm not being patronising, but when are 'some' of you guys in the States going to get over the Red Menace thing? I thought McCarthyism was dead and buried.

Believe me, Communism isn't the biggest threat to our world. Small minded people are!

McCarthy right? Oh, please! It was all about increasing paranoia and fear. Which is why it was compared to the witch hunts of the 17th century.

Don't get me wrong, I don't support Communism. I think that most people who call themselves a Communist or claim to like it have never visited a Communist country, I have many times and I've never seen one I would like to live in. Either that, or the person has double standards. For instance I once knew a guy that called himself a Communist, oh yeah he would preach to you about Communist values. But he still lived off his rich parents, wore $200 Nike and drove a flash car......see, double standards!

All of that aside, I don't see how you consider Obama and Dr King Communists?

Politics of Fear...I'm a little tired of it. History is too important to recreate on your own. Please! I'm more than tired of our current administration's 'CREATIVE REALITY' show! You can't make things be the way you want just by saying the words - although sadly there are far too many who have bought into it all.
