I hate to disagree with Elfy but I live in Minnesota, and my grandson goes to a high school in our district that does tolerate a kid who believes he is a cat, to the point that they have installed a litter box in a space just for that kid to use.

Keep in mind, this is Mn, not the rest of the US that has allowed this to happen, and by that I mean to say the school administration and the parents!  I do not blame the kid as much as his responsible elders as trust me, kids will push as far as they are allowed to making a point!

I will add that we have a school board election coming up in a few weeks and I for one am voting for some overall changes, I hope the majority of the community feels the same way but we will soon find that out!

What school would this be at? I would like to check into the facts, because all the fact checking I've seen (including from the state level in MN) says that there is no school anywhere in the state that this actually happens. If it does actually happen, I would love to know the name of the school because I'm sure it would be all over the news and confirmed as fact.

Having been in the military myself, I doubt a couple of MPs could have inspired as much awe from a Lieutenant, unless they had a captain among them, in charge, or someone of higher status.  MPs are really just another unit of the military, and they are not special except when they carry out specific parts of their mission, which basically makes them like police to civilians.

I would suggest, next time you write the MP in this manner, if you mean to intimidate the lieutenant, and Sergeant Major isn't going to do it.  You need an officer higher in status than a lieutenant.

Sergeant major is like an E-7?  Lieutenant is an 0-1 or 0-2.  The Sergeant major will have more years and experience in, but the Lieutenant's status is higher.  The Lieutenant could bark orders from the MPs and ask what the hell is going on... so just a note for future references to the military for you.

The story looks like it's headed to something like the Amazon route... where the MPs and that woman might be care takers for some little boys playing army very soon, if your posting on this site means anything!

    I like the idea!

    Yes, and no.

Lieutenant is the first rank of an officer, but it has higher status than Enlisted ranks, at least in the United States.  Some people can work up to Lieutenant by an Enlisted working specifically to become an officer.  It is possible, thought not as easy as joining commissioned to begin with.

The Sergeant Major would not have talked to the Lieutenant the way he did in the story, in real life, unless the Lieutenant broke military code or the law, which he then would no longer be a Lieutenant if already found guilty of that.

That's why I gave some suggestions for "next time" if the writer plans on doing military stories again.

I would disagree in general. Sergeant Majors are normally E-10s and have well over a decade of experience and are generally the cream of the crop of enlisted personnel, at least from my experience dealing with some in my past. And they typically carried more weight than a newbie lieutenant would (as the saying went in WW2 for instance, the real leaders of the units were the senior noncoms, more than the officers). I mean, just look at Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Regiment during WW2 if you want an example of that historically.

The story is intriguing, interested to see where it goes.

Young whipper snappers!!!! Definitely a Monty Python reference! If you haven't seen Search for the Holy Grail you need to go educate yourself. ?

    Indeed! ?

One of my pals at Halloween Haunt would do that whole speech about the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch while he was stalking people in the dark in our maze...

Well, over the last 15 years, I had lots of "jenglish" (japanese english) to read in customer specs and conversation with customers. My mind got a lot of times so twisted on a single sentence there, after 3 times reading it, I had to go for a smoke to untwist my mind and synapses and start over with it. I sometimes took the original japanese stuff in the Google translator to see, if it makes more sense, than what they actually wrote ?

Compared to the 7 years of Russian in school in East Germany in the 80's, and just about 4 years of English, the best thing for me was the 1 year in the U.S. on exchange in the 90's after the german reunion. Later, I even did my diploma thesis in English, instead of German, at least it saved me to tackle with the "German Spelling Reformation". :D

Interestingly, I had an 'exchange sister' from Chemnitz when I was a little one for real and an 'exchange brother' from Eibenstock too...

I'm not familiar with the US court system, but I do know that the South was not so good for black people (well, it still isn't everywhere). But I just assume that the system in DD is not as broken as the US justice system.

I understand your approach. I still think that the judge is more on Cameron's side just in terms of the evidence.
And let's face it, Cameron was stripped of his maturity because he got into an argument with the judge.
That would be as if you argue with your employer and he fires you because he thinks your opinion is stupid, well I don't know how it is in the U.S. in Germany there is a protection against fire that means you have to have really screwed up to be fired, otherwise you can sue and would, to stay with the example of discussion, get right and your boss would have to hire you again.
Also, the rules of maturity do not apply to Cameron as a Mid as they would to a Little.
That means his conviction was illegal from the beginning.
There should have been a completely different procedure.

I just hope Sofia won't make us wait too long. Oh well, I guess she'll tease us again with the next 2 chapters before we know the judgment.

I work for a German company here in the US (and in a right-to-work state on top of that) and it can be confusing. Essentially, throughout most of the US, you can be fired for any reason and have no way to contest it truthfully because of the right-to-work laws.

That being said, the US justice system is flawed but has a tendency to in some way self-correct at times. It just takes a while in certain locations because they want to maintain the status quo. Which is why I can definitely see the judge in this case waiting for some of the circus to die down before he puts out his verdict...while we aren't as stodgy as the English (who still wear wigs in court or did last I checked), the dinosaurs still want to maintain things a certain way. :)

  6. I was thinking the same at first Babypants (since I also did Algebra I when I was 13), but then I thought about something else. It could be Algebra II, or they could be doing several types of math combined in the UK.

Anyways, I feel for Scott, but I also like seeing how deep he is falling.

  7. Such a really good chapter. I honestly love Ivy, and I would probably be killing to have her as my mommy, if I went to that dimension. She's got the full range of Amazon and Human...and I love how she tries to keep a smile on Holly's face.

Macey is one I'm trying to figure out, she seems to be caring and concerned, but she is definitely too blinded by society to even attempt a change.

And I really liked the scene with the doctor who came around...I've met a number of people like that in life, and one of them is still one of my biggest supporters today.

  8. I just read this in one sitting straight through. Wow. I mean, I don't know what other word I can use.

You touch on so many of my fantasies and dark desires, and it feels so visceral with every action Bree takes, whether they are good or bad. And each character is definitely far more developed than a a simple chapter or five could even develop.

You realize that you would have at max a few hundred thousand dollars after taxes and charity. A million dollars is not that much. Feds take 40%

Actually, not quite accurate. As of 2018, the amount federal taxes levy against lottery winnings (above a certain threshold) is 24%. That has been verified as accurate by two people I know who deal with the IRS a lot more often than most of us. Then it depends on states as to a percentage the state takes (Texas takes 0%, Virginia takes 4%, etc.).

For me, I would work with a financial planner to put money away and invest, I would likely buy a nice condo somewhere with cash, buy a nice (think top of the line) VW for a car, and focus on writing and doing projects I want. And try to enjoy myself.
