  1. On another thread, "Hiprex" was suggested. (Hiprex has anti bacterial properties which suppress or eliminate uninary bacteria; contains Hexamine Hippurate, 1g) I have been using it for the last few months without problems. Prior to that I was taking cranberry capsules 2 or 3 times a say.  I live in Australia. Take care!

  2. I have always found taking a shower awkward with a stent in place as one doesn't want to dribble all over the bathroom floor. I use pull ups and putting one on when not properly dry is no fun.  I thought of wrapping 'it' in some sort of cloth before leaving the shower. I have a stack of single use, toweling cloths about 10 in sq saved from flights. One of these is wrapped and held in place with an elastic band while I dry off at leisure. Anything would do.  Sorry ladies, won't work for you.

  3. I have kept foley caths in for up to 6 weeks with total comfort. The use of 30cc balloon is not so usual. I have heard that bladder cramps are more likely with the larger balloons. If you persist, perhaps with 5 or 10cc balloon the body soon becomes accustomed. It's great to use a cath connected directly to a 2 litre night bag when sleeping. I cover the bag with a hot water bottle cover. Keeps my feet warm in winter.

  4. I use Cranberry 30,000 capsules. (equivalent to 30g (1oz) fresh cranberries)   One in the morning and one in the evening whilst there is something inserted plus for 48 hours after removal. Also I take 2 prior to insertion. Of course, I have no idea if it works but hopefully by causing the urine to be acidic,  it discourages the formation of bacteria in the bladder.

  5. I use a 'holey foley' from time to time. Totally comfortable and works perfectly during the day but no good in bed as I wake up with a full bladder. Maybe the hole is too small. If I use the same size catheter into a night bag there is no problem.

I have never tried catheter, but rely want to try it out. One thing I do like with diapers is when I get the sudden accident feeling. That wont happen with a catheter. But I came d up with an idea. If putting a non return valve on the end of the catheter. It should not open until there Is some level of pressure. depending on the valve, maybe you might fell some urge before, it happens. A good thing with most non return valves are that they need some pressure to start, but when open they stay open to the flow stops.

Have anyone tested something like this?

I tried a non return valve at the end of a catheter into a diaper and promptly got UTI. Previously I had used a fitting from the top of a leg bag with tape over the end. In that tape was a single pin hole. That seemed to work rather well at preventing reverse flow providing one drinks plenty of fluids.

  7. After a few times the urethra looses sensitivity and there is no discomfort. The catheter is designed not to be reused however soaking in a mix of about 70% alcohol and water then rinsed with boiled water, has always worked for me. Every care is needed to avoid bladder infection.

  8. I have been experimenting with catheters and more recently stents for at least 15 years with only a few instances of UTI. Then about 8 months ago had to see my Doc with a dose. “Very unusual in men” he said. I didn’t let on. He prescribed Altrim which worked well. Then I decided to quit and tossed out everything.  A few weeks ago I noticed that script was still valid and had an unused repeat; my insurance policy. Off we go again. This time the cath had only been in about 30 hours before removing it. Hours later I was aware of discomfort following a pee.  That afternoon when out and about I wore a pull up as a precaution. When out, I experienced true incontinence for the first time together with strong bladder cramps, being quite unable to hold it. Later I was surprised to find I had been leaking both ends. Off to the pharmacy.

I am looking at issues with my prostate. If the worst is true, I have no question that it is getting removed. I don't relish the thought of being incontinent, but I prefer it to cancer. Diapers have been a part of my life for 50 years. I am comfortable with them, but that doesn't mean I want to need them.

I needed to use pads for 10 weeks. ED is something else.  Good luck.

  10. I have been indulging in catheter play on and off for about 14 years. You reminded me of those delightful bladder spasms I haven't felt for months as I purged after the last lot of UTI in August. Back into it but only for 4 days due irritation. I just luv the tingling sensation up the arms. Maybe try a 'holy foly' in a day or so.
