Yeah I debated on adding but I threw it in there in the end. The more pertinent comparison I think though is between the three Bambino varieties and the Active Ultra as they're all built on more or less the same mold as it where. From a less empirical stand point the Molicare, Abena, all three Bambinos, and Active Ultra all feel the same thickness wise when wearing them. Which is odd given that they range by as much a full half inch in my measurements. Even weirder is that the Wellness brief measures thicker than the Active Ultra but feels a whole lot thinner more in the range of the ATN and Molicare Super.
-
I only have the new unfortunately and yes all measured where mediums. The "old" medium is the new small correct? One of these days I'll buy some. My next big order though after trying a bunch of different samples I think will end up being the new Bambinos, some Active Ultras, and my standby favorite Molicares.
-
I added conversions to inches as well. Used millimeters just for accuracy and my personal preference but I know a lot of US people are a lot more familiar with inches so that would be a more meaningful measurement for them.
-
These are all in size Medium and measured while folded because they're a lot easier to measure that way and I don't want a bunch of unfolded diapers laying around. It should give a sort of general idea but won't be hyper accurate, but like I said it's hard to be hyper accurate anyway. I also measured as close to the center as I could and the diapers all have also been out of bags for some time so should be fully decompressed. I also wasn't a light touch with the calipers. I didn't try to squeeze them as tightly as they could go but I also did put some pressure on them. That may explain with the Molicare measures out the thickest as it compressed the least. Molicare Super Plus - 37mm/1.46 in. Dry 24/7 - 35mm/1.38 in. Abena X-Plus - 35mm//1.38 in. Bambino New Diaper - 33mm/1.3 in. Bambino Classico - 31mm/1.2 in. Bambino Teddy - 30mm/1.18 in. Unique Wellness - 27mm/1.06 in. Active Ultra - 26mm/1.02 in. Tranquility ATN - 25mm/0.98 in. Molicare Super - 24mm/0.94 in. Take these measurements with a grain of salt though. Different folding methods can make some appear thinner or thicker than others, the measurements I supplied previously should give some more context for that. The Active Ultra for example is folded up smaller than any of the Bambinos but is still much thinner. Finally there's something like 5mm of variation in the measurements on any given diaper so don't put too much stock in a difference of 2-3mm of thickness. I've posted the average of 3 measurements from slightly different locations.
-
Yeah with the weighing I was just trying to satisfy my own curiosity. Thickness is really hard to measure. I even have electronic calipers and you can be measuring by the millimeter and get totally different measurements each time you measure the same diaper. The padding compresses and expands and the thickness varies all over the place depending on where you're measuring on most brands. I may do some measurements later and do multiple measurements and then either put it down as a range or as an average.

I noted when I first opened up the samples that the New Diaper and Teddy looked about the same in dimensions when folded but that the New Diaper seemed to weigh significantly more. I finally found my postage scale and was able to weigh them: New Diaper - 7g Classico/Teddy/Active Ultra - 5.5g So the Teddy, Classico, and Active Ultra all weigh exactly the same but the New Diaper is a full 1.5g more than those. That's probably the extra sap right? What I also find interesting is that while the Teddy and the New Diaper are both, when folded, about the same dimensions as noted. The Classico is a bit smaller than the Teddy and the Active Ultra is way smaller, a full 3 cm narrower. It's also a lot thinner when folded than all the Bambinos. I've noted full measurements below. I didn't measure thickness as that can be all over the place for the same diaper depending on compression and where you choose to measure. I'm thinking the differences between the Classico and the Teddy may be that I have the old run of Classicos and the new run of Teddies. New Diaper/Teddy - 15 x 19 cm Classico - 14 x 19 cm Active Ultra - 12 x 19 cm I also weighed everything else I have at the moment while I had the scale out. I've excluded the Dry 24/7 as that seems to cause a lot of contention. I'd say that the New Diaper compares well to the Abena X-Plus based on weight as well as my own usage. The difference for me being, due to lower rise and smaller sizing, they fit me a whole lot better than the Abena. A little off topic but this also kind of confirms that the Molicare Super is basically Molicare's ATN. They're both very similar in pulp/sap, thickness, fit, and apparently weight. The Molicare is just more spaceage with it's elastic tapes and breathable side panels. Abena X-Plus - 7g Molicare Super Plus - 5.75g Wellness - 5g Attends Extended Wear - 5g Molicare Super - 4g ATN - 4g

That's how I always tape. Basically pulling the tapes up to middle of where my pelvic bone sticks out and then also angling the top tapes down a bit but not as much. Still the Drycare leak on me I really to like them otherwise. Just wish XP sold the size small.
-
I just tried these as well and love the faux-velcro. The velcro tabs feel way more secure than traditional tapes I think because the more they're pulled on the more they grip into the front panel. I wish some other brands would do that. I remember posting on ADISC before the Active Ultra existed about how I wish there where some good diapers with velcro fasteners and got a lot of flack about it. That place in general can be a bit hostile and worse sex-negative. Anyway getting way off topic, I like them a lot. I have only ordered samples but I'm probably going to end up ordering a bag of them.
-
Yeah they're very comfortable. They don't wick as well as the Super Plus and are pretty thin but I like them.
-
I identify as a dl but don't have much of a sexual component to wearing diapers. I just like wearing them. I think they're bears and bunnies. I tend to think of Hello Kitty based on the design so maybe "Hello Bunny" or even "Hello Panda" even though the bears clearly aren't pandas the word panda sounds nice.
-
For me the big winner with them is the fit and comfort. Performance is another plus. They do absorb a whole lot wick decently and do a great job of keeping moisture away from the skin. With me I can actually use up most of the absorbency unlike Abena X-Plus or 24/7 which always leaks out the back of the legs due to poor, oversized, fit. I think the plastic also plays a part as the Abena X-Plus and Dry 24/7 seem to not be very elastic. Instead they tend to stretch out and get loose. That also happens with the Classicos for me as well but to a lesser extent as they fit me better to start with. These new diapers seem to have a much more elastic shell that both improves comfort and longevity. On the downside though, I did have tapes coming loose towards the end of wearing one for a few hours. Now this happens to me with Dry 24/7s and regular Bambinos as well not so much with some of the other brands I wear. I'd say it's the tape panel expect that the 24/7s don't have one. That's easy enough to fix with some additional tape but it would be nice not to have to do that. As a recreational user I don't buy diapers all that often and am planning to make another fairly large, for me, purchase towards the end of November. I'm pretty sure now a bag of the "New Diaper" will be on my shopping list.

Sorry to ask again but, are Secure and Active Ultra more or less the same diaper? If they in fact are, even factoring in decompression, mine came pre-decompressed being samples, the Active Ultra is far thinner than the new Bambino. A bit thicker than but closer to the ATN than even the Teddy. They're also folded up into a much smaller footprint, which the Secure looks like it is as well in the review, and even with that being the case they're much thinner folded up. Compared to everything I have in a similar actual size which includes ATN, Molicare Super, Molicare Super Plus, Wellness, Attends Extended, Abena X-Plus, Bambino Classico, Bambino Teddy, and Active Ultra, it's the thickest of any of those. It's not by a huge amount as Adrian notes in her review. It's thicker than the Abena X-Plus in the same way that the X-Plus is thicker than the Molicare Super Plus. It's mostly a negligible difference. On a side note though, I have bought the Abena X-Pluses three times. A year or two back once in Air and once in regular and I swear this newest batch I have are significantly thinner than the older ones but I don't have any of the older ones to compare to. I'd even go so far as to say it seems thinner than the current Molicare Super Plus. All said, I still want to try out the ABU version just because of the print. I'm not even into AB stuff but I do dig cartoony designs like that and variety is always welcome.

I think, based on the samples I got, Active Ultra, Teddy, New all in medium, that your review seems pretty fair and accurate. They aren't hugely thicker than other diapers you mention but are a bit thicker and do end up being about the same as the Abena X-Plus or Dry 24/7 although it's hard for me to compare the later since I only have medium Drycares which are crazy big. I also find as someone with a 30" waist that these fit great and better than most mediums. I'd say they're about the same size-wise as medium Tranquility ATNs. This is just a personal preference thing but I find that these are way up there in comfort level. I'm not sure if I like them more than my favs the Molicare Super Plus but they're a contender for sure. It seems like Abena Xpluses and Dry 24/7s are among the more popular favorites but I personally don't care for them, just to give context.
-
If the Secure X-Plus is anything like the Active Ultra I can say that comparison is accurate. The Teddy though on the other hand is pretty similar in size to the new diaper.

Got my samples today. Just some preliminary opinions based on appearance since I won't get a change to wear any of them until at least tonight. Teddy - First time trying these. I was surprised that they seem noticeably thicker than regular Bambinos which I was not expecting. Not a huge difference but notable all the same. I thought they where more or less the same thing with just a different print. New Diaper - Thickness wise it is in fact, based on my observations, if anything only marginally thicker than the regular Bambinos and about the same as the Teddy. They are very noticeably heavier than the Teddy though which leads me to believe they're either more compressed or have a lot more sap or something. The plastic is softer but I do still definitely prefer Molicare over anyone else still in that respect. I was hoping for something Molicare-esque plastic wise. Active Ultra - Again, thought these where pretty much identical to the Bambinos just with the velcro instead of plastic front panel. They're much thinner and folded up smaller though. Not necessarily a bad thing, I like variety but it was surprising.

I kinda agree with Leilin. Boosters by far work best as boosters. I have tried a variety of other things everything from double diapering to using maxi-pads as boosters and really all they do is increase bulk and as Leilin stated, if anything they reduce the effectiveness of the diaper being "boosted". I tend to like the Abena boosters the best since they contain no sap and since almost all modern disposables do they compliment them well adding much needed wicking in a lot of cases. The Molicare Super for example, which is almost all sap but very comfortable, is great with the large Abena booster added to it.

Okay I thought it was just me. I was going to come in here to ask if I was doing something wrong but I have never been able to keep them from not leaking out the back of the legs. I'm actually a bit smaller than you at 30-31 waist and I want to be able to wear them but they're just too damn big. I may end up ordering some of the smalls directly from them at some point.

Amazon Prime is a wonderful thing. Never more than a day away from more diapers if you're willing to pony up the $3.99 for next day or at worst two days away for free shipping.

Love Of Diapers With A Disapproving Wife.
gah!ghost replied to youngdiaperlover's topic in Diaper Lovers
I feel like I would never be able to be friends with anyone, let alone married to someone, who wouldn't accept just about any odd behavior short of seriously injuring yourself or others. Anyone who has hangups about behavior like that isn't really my sort of person because I'm not that sort of person. It likely has some to do with my own varied unusual interests but even if I had none I'd hope I'd be totally okay with anything anyone else was into. I know my parents have biases like that and I am always getting on their collective cases for things as minor as complaining about people with tattoos. -
Yeah the Medium Dry 24/7s are huge. I'd guess they're closer to a Bambino large than a medium.
-
Kind of related, but I'm curious. For those who have to or choose to wear 24/7 how do you deal with the gel-heavy diapers swelling? Maybe you just have to get used to it but for me a Bambino Classico with a booster becomes very difficult to walk in normally when it's fairly wet. I would think this new diaper would be a problem for day time wearing but again, may just be that I'm not used to it.
-
Tapes, leaks, and sagging have since become way less of a worry since I started using a pair of fairly tight fitting ultraflex pants from fetwear. Really improves the diaper wearing experience for me.
-
Sounds like they're kind of in the realm of the fit of the medium ATN.
-
That's good news for me. I'm pretty short waisted and much prefer lower rise diapers like Molicare. The regular Bambinos are a decent fit but I'd like them a bit lower rise so this sounds perfect.
-
In my experience leaking seems to be more about the person than the diaper. Abena and Dry 24/7 always will leak on me always. No idea what exactly it is about them that causes it but I have never had them not leak. I use vinyl pants so it's not as big a deal as it sounds, but it is a consistent problem. Bambinos, Molicare, Tranquility, Attends, and Wellness don't leak, I think it has to do with the fit. Hopefully the new Bambinos work for me the same way the old ones do. My samples should be here Wednesday, I'll post my thoughts when I get 'em.
